Job Summary
Help protect one of Floridas most vital resources water with a career at theSouthwest Florida Water Management District (District).
The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources minimize flood risks and ensure the publics water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6million people in west-central Florida as directed by state law.
For helping to maintain our valuable water resources as a student we offer:

- Assist staff and the public with map and data requests.
- Complete tasks related to preparing the next Districtwide orthoimagery acquisition.
- Perform tasks supporting the development of new land use/land cover (LULC) analysis techniques.
- Conduct QA/QC on Districtwide datasets including orthoimagery and lidar.
- Edit and update historical permit data.
- Carry out additional GIS and surveyârelated activities as needed.
Most work is conducted in a standard office environment. Work activity is primarily sedentary with ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environments vary by assigned business unit.
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college university or other recognized educational or vocational program
- Maintain a minimum GPAof 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
- Valid drivers license
- Experience with creating maps in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Pro and entering data into geodatabases
- Experience with editing workflows and using extensions in ArcGIS Desktop
- Experience with ArcGIS Desktop software and Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word and Excel)
- Familiarity with LiDAR and orthoimagery data
- Preferred Degrees:Geospatial Sciences or Geography
- Preferred Degree Level:Undergraduate
The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. This position is typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM out of the Brooksville FL office. This position requires work to be conducted inside of the office for enhanced learning opportunities. The District offers the year-round Student Internship Program to provide students with real work experience and specific hands-on knowledge related to the chosen course of study.
