In this role you will play a critical part in ensuring reliable operation and maintenance of generator systems to support hatchery facilities statewide.

Envision yourself taking the lead in developing and managing preventive maintenance schedules and preparing detailed reports to keep key personnel informed of equipment status and system performance.

As a technical expert on generator systems you will also provide guidance on the placement of large-scale generators recommendations for replacement and designing fuel supply and exhaust systems.

What to Expect-

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role the Generator Technician will

Perform Generator and Compressor Maintenance (Diesel Mechanics):

Project Leadership and Administration:

• Develop cost estimates for repairs or replacements of parts.
• Track detailed monthly expenditures including travel vehicle mileage purchases in Microsoft Excel.
• Monitor incoming work orders pertaining to generator and compressor related needs to develop and implement work schedules.
• Prioritize and schedule upcoming work by severity of issue program priority and/or geographical location.

Generator Electrical Preventative Maintenance

• Independently perform on-site load bank testing generators to verify that all primary components of the generator set are in proper working condition.

Metal Fabrication:

Plumbing:

• Perform inspection and maintenance on fuel delivery systems (propane and diesel and containment) to assess efficiency and wear.

Schedule:Typically Monday Thursday 6:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. working 40 hours per week. The standard work schedule includes the potential for occasional evening or weekend work as needed.

Travel Requirements: Travel required 60-80% statewide depending on season.

Tools and Equipment:Basic hand tools power tools such as drills roto hammers cut off saws circular saws hydraulic punch metal band saws welders cutting torch plasma cutter chainsaws powered motors automotive equipment and trailers

Customer Interactions:Frequent interactions varying between Federal local inter-agency and intra-agency customers and vendors.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Option 1: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in heavy equipment operation construction plumbing diesel mechanics or a related trade.
And

Three (3) years of journey-level experience performing construction maintenance repair and heavy equipment operations.

Option 2: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience performing heavy equipment operation construction maintenance repair and transportation activities on commercial industrial utility transportation natural resource or public works projects.

Option 3: Two (2) years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic 2.

In addition to the options above the following experience is required (may be gained concurrently):

• Lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures.
• Generator maintenance and repair.

Certifications/Licenses:

Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications our ideal applicant will possess one or more of the following:

Current certification in welding electrical maintenance diesel technology or a related trade.

Experience:

• Developing work schedules prioritizing maintenance activities and coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Preparing cost estimates tracking expenditures and utilizing Microsoft Excel or similar software for reporting and recordkeeping.
• Leading or directing the work of maintenance crews contractors or project teams.
• Supporting fish hatchery operations water management systems aquaculture facilities or other industrial infrastructure.
