Job Summary
Fire Protection Engineering Intern at Cushing Terrell. This is an in-person internship supporting our Fire Protection Engineering team on real client projects.
What does this role involve day to day You will work under the guidance of licensed fire protection engineers gaining exposure to fire protection system design including sprinklers alarms smoke control and suppression systems.
What will I create You will help review construction drawings and specifications for compliance assist with fire risk assessments and hazard analyses and support engineering calculations such as hydraulic analysis and smoke control.
What does success look like in this internship You will build a base foundation of engineering principles and code requirements review building codes and standards including NFPA and IBC participate in site visits and inspections and leave with a clear picture of what it means to work in the AEC industry.
The expected wage range for this position is $21.00 to $26.00 per hour.
- Completion of 3 years of a mechanical engineering or related undergraduate program
- Basic understanding of building codes and standards
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite Microsoft Office Suite Outlook and Bluebeam
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt
- Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with team members across disciplines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exposure to sprinkler alarm or smoke control system design
- Interest in fire risk assessments and hazard analyses
- Familiarity with NFPA IBC or local fire code regulations
- Interest in hydraulic analysis or engineering calculations

- Assist with fire protection system design including sprinklers alarms smoke control and suppression systems

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidates years of experience licensure status location level of proficiency and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
