POSITION PURPOSE:

To contribute to an effective school maintenance program through providing prompt efficient and safe maintenance and repair of district facilities.

NATURE & SCOPE:

The Facilities and Maintenance Technician I position is distinguished from the Custodian I classification by responsibility for duties that include basic construction and repair of buildings equipment and furniture; operating building security HVAC systems power tools and equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Performs semi-skilled work in the construction repair and maintenance of all schools buildings furniture equipment and properties owned and/or operated by the district in trade areas such as but not limited to carpentry plumbing heating mechanics sheet rock roofing glazing masonry lock repair
• Work involves the performance of a variety of tasks requiring the use of mechanical craft tools and materials. Knowledge of mechanical craft principles is involved. However the skill requirement is less than that of a journeyman
• Responsible for operating power tools equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner
• Completes School Dude requests for repairs and maintenance services as assigned by supervisor
• Moves furniture and equipment installs work stations
• Maintains stock of required supplies to allow timely and efficient performance of preventative maintenance item
• Ability to work as part of a maintenance team; performs cross-trade assignments including custodial
• Operate MESD hi-cube vans box truck with lift gate and fork lift and also performs service and preventive maintenance including DEQ testing as needed and make sure vehicles are in good running order
• Arrange for annual vehicle inspections and ODE Certification for all student transportation vehicles.
• Attends regular staff meetings and participates in problem solving and discussions of systems and project related issues
• Act as a liaison with contractors and suppliers for services needed
• Contact customers and arranges deliveries plan delivery routes and schedules perform loading and unloading task and complete assembly and installation of materials as needed
• Prepare requisitions for supplies and equipment such as custodian supplies tools and equipment and repair parts as necessary
• Operate maintain monitor and report irregularities in the operation of security heating ventilation and air conditioning systems
• Access CMMS/HVAC software for controlling heating and cooling requests
• Repair plumbing such as faucets drain traps and toilet valves as needed. Repair furniture broken windows shelves doors and locks
• Monitor and assure proper operation of back-up generator. Check oil and water and run exercise program on a routine basis
• Respond to emergency calls. Secure building as necessary.
• Make pickups and deliveries locally for MESDs component districts departments and programs in a safe and timely manner. Specific duties depend on assignments and may include work request co-op purchasing deliveries Outdoor School support or Business Office deliveries
• Valid drivers license for use on the job and with a driving record acceptable to agency insurance carrier
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES:

• Basic knowledge of plumbing lighting construction HVAC and other building systems
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with other employees individuals and groups and students using tact courtesy and good judgment
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions policies and procedures with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines
• Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of grounds maintenance and cleaning equipment including proper safety standards and practices relating to building cleaning and maintenance
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
• Thorough knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures and knowledge of occupational hazards of the trades
• Basic to intermediate technological skills required providing the ability to enter revise organize and retrieve information from computer systems
• Ability to troubleshoot/problem solve independently
• Ability to exercise confidentiality tact diplomacy and independent judgment in performance of duties

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES:

• Bilingual or multilingual in Spanish Vietnamese Chinese Russian and/or Somali

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma or G.E.D. and four years of general building repair and cleaning experience
• Possess BOC I Certification (Building Operators Certification) or be able to complete BOC I Certification within 6 months of hire date
• Experience working in buildings with environmental hazards or exposures
• Experience with the use of tools and equipment of the trades
• Any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills knowledge and ability required to perform the job

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors across district facilities with exposure to varying weather conditions and moderate to loud noise levels from equipment and machinery. This position requires in-person presence at assigned sites and may involve occasional travel between locations to complete work orders deliveries or emergency repairs.
