Job Summary

The job of Fabrication Planner is responsible for planning coordinating and monitoring fabrication activities to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements. This position ensures the timely release of work orders availability of materials and accurate scheduling of fabrication operations. The Fabrication Planner works closely with production engineering purchasing warehouse and fabrication personnel to optimize workflow maintain production priorities and support efficient manufacturing operations.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain fabrication schedules based on production requirements and customer delivery commitments.
  2. Review work orders drawings and production requirements to ensure fabrication activities are properly planned and prioritized.
  3. Release and manage fabrication work orders in accordance with production schedules.
  4. Monitor fabrication progress and adjust schedules as necessary to address changing priorities or production constraints.
  5. Coordinate fabrication priorities with production management to ensure efficient workflow and resource utilization. Review material requirements and verify availability to support fabrication schedules.
  6. Coordinate with purchasing and warehouse personnel to ensure timely availability of materials and components.
  7. Identify material shortages and communicate requirements to appropriate departments.
  8. Monitor material status and assist in resolving supply-related issues affecting production schedules.
  9. Maintain production schedules work order records and planning documentation.
  10. Generate and distribute reports related to fabrication schedules work order status and production progress.
  11. Ensure work orders drawings and supporting documentation are accurate and available to fabrication personnel.
  12. Maintain accurate data within ERP and production management systems. Communicate production schedules and priorities to fabrication supervisors and leads.
  13. Collaborate with engineering production warehouse and purchasing teams to support manufacturing objectives.
  14. Monitor workflow and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce production delays.
  15. Assist in coordinating schedule changes and resolving production-related issues.
  16. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning and production processes.
  17. Follow all company safety policies procedures and manufacturing standards.
  18. Ensure planning activities comply with company processes and documentation requirements.
  19. Support quality objectives by ensuring accurate work order and production information.
  20. Assist with production reporting and capacity planning activities.
  21. Participate in production meetings and planning reviews.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Business Supply Chain or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of production planning scheduling manufacturing fabrication or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific Skills

  • Strong organizational planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings work orders bills of material and production schedules.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and fabrication operations.
  • Proficiency in ERP MRP or production scheduling systems.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyze production data and identify scheduling conflicts or constraints.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written oral and diagram-based instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
