Endoscopy Technician I

Monday-Friday 4- 10 hr shifts. Call required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Six months of related experience preferred. LICENSURE CERTIFICATION and/or REGISTRATION: Current BLS certification required. Complete high-level disinfection (HLD) training with first three months of employment with annual renewal. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Operates all department equipment in designated decontamination areas and promptly reports issues to the Assistant Nurse Manager of Endoscopy. 2. Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of scopes and other instruments. 3. Inspects scopes and instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality. 4. Assembles scopes and instruments into proper carrying containers according to procedure room needs. 5. Packages special instruments according to manufacturers instructions. 6. Performs required decontamination and verifies adequacy of the process. 7. Maintains documentation of decontamination processes utilizing Endora system. 8. Stores scopes and other instruments in identified location. 9. Collects instruments for special sterilization delivers to the specific areas for sterilization and picks up instruments post sterilization process for storage or immediate use in the Endoscopy unit. 10. Participates in the departments monthly meetings and educational training opportunities. 11. Assists other team members as needed such as delivery of specimen to the pathology laboratory area and other errands assisting workflow and patient throughput. 12. Protects self coworkers and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases. 13. Exhibits competency in assisting general endoscopic procedures within the Endoscopy unit at the patients bedside in critical care and in OR such as EGD colonoscopy specimen collection snares biopsy forceps and dilations. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Proficient communication skills Ability to operate equipment such as Endora tracking system Medivators Dri-scope Veriscan Scope Buddy and other devices related to scope decontamination and disinfecting of other instruments Knowledge of instrument IFUs care/disposal of solutions in use in the decontamination room and scope/scope cabinet cleaning schedules Ability to show competency in scope handling during general GI procedures such as EGD colonoscopy use of snares and biopsy forceps dilation procedures and assistance in doing travel GI cases in critical care and OR WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to hazards associated with bodily fluids and tissue Regular exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases Exposure to chemical agents used in cleaning Subject to varying and unpredictable situations Subject to many interruptions Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries Exposure to some sharp instruments that may result in cuts or abrasions PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Amount of time spent performing the following activities: 0% 35% 65% to to to 35% 65% 100% N/A Activity X Standing X Walking X Sitting X Bending X Reaching with arms X Finger and hand dexterity X Talking X Hearing X Seeing Lifting carrying pushing and or pulling: X 20 lbs. maximum X 50 lbs. maximum X 100 lbs. maximum
