Facility: The VA Central California Health Care System provides comprehensive medical surgical and mental health services to Veterans across the Central Valley. Located at 2615 E. Clinton Ave. Fresno CA 93703 this modern facility serves a large Veteran population and operates a 24/7 Emergency Department supporting a Trauma Level II designation. The medical center is committed to excellence in patient care education and research.



Responsibilities:



  • Provide comprehensive emergency medicine physician services in a Trauma Level II Emergency Department

  • Evaluate diagnose and manage the full spectrum of emergency medical conditions including trauma cardiac emergencies respiratory disorders neurological events and psychiatric emergencies

  • Perform emergency procedures including central venous line placement arterial catheter placement chest tube thoracostomy endotracheal intubation lumbar puncture procedural sedation cardioversion and cricothyroidotomy

  • Provide initial evaluation emergent treatment and stabilization for life- and limb-threatening conditions

  • Manage wound care fracture/dislocation reduction and application of orthopedic devices

  • Coordinate patient admissions consultations and transfers as clinically indicated

  • Document all patient encounters in the electronic health record system

  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions to patients

  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities

  • Supervise and educate health professions trainees rotating through the Emergency Department



Qualifications:



  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM) or Internal Medicine (ABIM/ABFM)

  • Current full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state



Schedule:



  • 0-12 shifts per month

  • The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year
