Job Summary

POSITION: EL/MLL Lead Teacher

LOCATION: RHS

REPORTS TO: RHS Principal or designee

SCHOOL YEAR: 2026-2027

JOB DESCRIPTION: To serve as the EL/MLL Teacher Lead for RHS

EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

  • Appropriate Rhode Island teaching certificate
  • Hold or currently be eligible for a Rhode Island Secondary Certificate in English as a Second Language (TESOL) and secondary content certification
  • A Professional or Life Professional Certificate from the Rhode Island Department of Education.
  • Three (3) years of middle school teaching experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of recent classroom teaching experience within the specific curriculum area of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by coursework school-level involvement professional activities and the interview process.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with the Director of English Learners and Principal to create agendas and records meeting notes for Team meetings.
  • Organizes and schedules activities to coordinate with the school calendar.
  • Working with the curriculum leads to using data to drive instruction.
  • Communicates with the Principal and Director of English Learners regularly regarding the cluster students and provides information for the purpose of MTSS or other student meetings.
  • Is proactive to reach out to the admin team to bring any questions and concerns to problem solve things together.
  • Acts as a resource person on curriculum/ELD and disseminates all relevant content area information and materials to implement state and federal requirements; Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
  • Confers as assigned by the principal with high school department heads and elementary principals to ensure elementary-middle-high school curriculum articulation; Lead teacher serves as members of the School Improvement Team.
  • Makes recommendations when appropriate to the principal to facilitate curriculum/ELD coordination among the elementary middle and high school levels.
  • Plans and facilitates WIDA Screener testing for RHS.
  • Plans and facilitates ACCESS testing organizes testing materials throughout the testing window.
  • Create and sustain a learning community of teachers staff students parents and community members that models high expectations professionalism collaboration and continuous learning.
  • In conjunction with district and school strategic plans use scientific-based research and multiple sources of student data to develop implement evaluate and revise strategic plans to improve teaching and learning at the department school and/or district levels.
  • Assists in the recruitment screening hiring training and assigning of department personnel;
  • Mentor teachers in his/her department.
  • Assist in planning prepping and organizing materials and assessments for long term absences within the department.
  • Assist in securing long-term substitutes for extended planned absences within the department
  • Evaluate and revise programs and instructional/management strategies to ensure compliance to all federal state and district policies as well as with regulations governing student achievement curriculum instruction assessment safety personnel and budget allocations.
  • Engage staff in ongoing study of best practices in content literacy instructional strategies curriculum design assessment technology and classroom management in order to create opportunities to improve instruction and increase student achievement.
  • Assists in developing departmental short-/long-term goals using school and district data in conjunction with the principal and other department chairs;
  • Conducts monthly department meetings facilitates weekly department CPT and attends directly relevant school district and professional meetings as necessary;
  • Assists department teachers in the handling of day-to-day instructional challenges and acts as a resource on curriculum and instructional matters;
  • Assists teachers and administrators in the development of the departments annual budget; including ordering and inventorying;
  • Provides orientation and professional development programs for department personnel (particularly new hires to the department);
  • Meets with other department leaders and district leaders to promote interdisciplinary programs and curriculum coordination;
  • Assists in identifying and utilizing community resources for the department program;
  • Provides the Principal and/or the Director of English Learners with current standards-based curriculum documents for all department offerings;
  • Consults with the Principal and/or the Director of English Learners in curricular and professional activities related to the department and school system;
  • Oversees and coordinates program(s)/events involving awards and other student achievement matters such as organizing the Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly and daily celebrations;
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9/1/2026-6/30/2027
