Job Summary
Your Role
The HSE Manager is responsible for developing implementing and sustaining comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs across Brenntag Southwest operations. This role ensures full compliance with federal state and local regulations (including OSHA EPA DOT FIFRA and state agencies) drives a proactive safety and compliance culture and provides specialized regulatory leadership in pesticide product registrations and related chemical distribution activities. The HSE Manager serves as a subject matter expert for risk reduction regulatory compliance emergency preparedness and product stewardship in our chemical distribution and formulation environment.
Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Pesticide Registrations
Lead the preparation submission and ongoing management of federal and state pesticide product registrations and amendments under FIFRA with the U.S. EPA. Coordinate state-level registrations renewals reporting and compliance with Departments of Agriculture (or equivalent) in all states where products are sold/distributed.
Provide end-to-end regulatory guidance for new pesticide active ingredients formulations label expansions and product development from EPA/state review through market launch.
Oversee and maintain EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements for covered facilities including hazard assessments prevention programs emergency response planning and submissions (with support from internal experts where applicable).
Ensure full compliance with OSHA EPA DOT NFPA RCRA and applicable state/local regulations. Maintain required permits (air stormwater SPCC waste) and complete submissions such as Tier II TRI hazardous waste reports and pesticide-specific filings.
Oversee chemical management SDS library maintenance product stewardship hazard communication (HazCom) and pesticide labeling programs.
Safety Program Leadership
Lead occupational safety programs including LOTO confined space hot work machine guarding fall protection industrial hygiene and process safety.
Conduct and document incident/accident investigations root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
Perform routine site inspections safety audits and compliance assessments; track findings and implement resolutions.
Facilitate safety meetings toolbox talks employee engagement initiatives and training programs.
Participate in the investigation of incidents and cooperate in preparing materials for hearings lawsuits or insurance claims.
Environmental Management
Manage hazardous waste storage labeling disposal and vendor relationships.
Oversee spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) plans environmental monitoring and reporting.
Assess current and proposed facilities processes and products for EHS issues.
Training & Development
Develop deliver and coordinate EHS training (including new-hire onboarding DOT HazMat pesticide-specific and regulatory topics) for employees and as needed customers.
Maintain training records verify competency and support the creation/ maintenance of training materials and the companys electronic reporting system.
Risk Management Due Diligence & Continuous Improvement
Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) risk assessments and process safety reviews.
Support due diligence for acquisitions or new product lines (assessing registrations permits compliance history and liabilities) and lead integration efforts (nice-to-have/expandable responsibility).
Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce incidents exposures and environmental impact. Support corporate EHS initiatives KPIs and audits.
Serve as the point of contact with EPA state agencies and other regulators; monitor evolving regulations and advise leadership on impacts.
Your Profile
Knowledge & Skills:
Thorough working knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926 EPA (including FIFRA RMP RCRA) DOT HazMat and state regulations.
Strong experience with pesticide registrations product stewardship and regulatory strategy/stakeholder engagement.
Excellent written/verbal communication leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to interface with all levels of employees management regulators customers and auditors.
Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in MS Office (Outlook Word Excel); experience with EHS software/electronic reporting systems a plus.
Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001 Responsible Distribution or similar programs is desirable.
Experience/ Education:
Bachelors degree in Environmental Science Occupational Safety Chemistry Engineering or related field (or equivalent combination). 5 years of progressive EHS experience in chemical distribution manufacturing or related industry (pesticide/regulated product experience strongly preferred).
Certifications: Professional certifications preferred CSP CHMM ASP CIH or equivalent). TWIC card may be required.
