Job Summary
Position Summary
The School Leadership Specialist is responsible for providing targeted content-specific instructional support to campuses to ensure high-quality Tier 1 instruction effective intervention and improved student outcomes.
This role serves as the districts instructional problem solver by identifying why instruction is not producing desired student outcomes and providing immediate job-embedded support to improve classroom practice. School Leadership Specialists work directly with teachers through modeling coaching co-teaching and instructional analysis to strengthen daily instruction while maintaining alignment with district curriculum and instructional expectations.
This position is not responsible for curriculum development principal coaching or system-level MTSS leadership. Instead the specialist provides direct classroom support that accelerates teacher effectiveness and student achievement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Instructional Diagnosis
Conduct deep instructional analysis to identify barriers to effective teaching and learning by:
- Analyzing classroom instruction to identify gaps in Tier 1 instruction.
- Determining alignment between classroom instruction and High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).
- Identifying weaknesses in lesson execution questioning strategies student engagement and rigor.
- Analyzing student work and classroom tasks to determine instructional effectiveness.
- Providing actionable recommendations for immediate instructional improvement.
This work extends beyond classroom walkthroughs and focuses on diagnosing root causes of instructional challenges.
- Targeted Teacher Support
Provide job-embedded coaching that results in measurable improvements in instructional practice by:
- Modeling high-quality lessons.
- Co-teaching alongside classroom teachers.
- Supporting teachers during lesson planning and implementation.
- Coaching teachers on effective small-group instruction.
- Supporting effective reteach strategies based on student performance.
- Providing individualized coaching aligned to campus priorities.
This position delivers coaching within classrooms rather than through stand-alone professional development sessions.
- PLC Support (Content-Specific)
Strengthen collaborative planning by:
- Facilitating standards-based conversations during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Guiding teams through student work analysis.
- Supporting data-driven instructional planning.
- Assisting teachers in developing targeted reteach plans.
- Ensuring PLCs focus on instructional decision-making rather than compliance.
- Intervention Effectiveness
Partner with campus MTSS teams to improve instructional intervention by:
- Monitoring the quality of instructional interventions.
- Ensuring intervention groups align to identified student needs.
- Supporting teachers in delivering effective intervention instruction.
- Connecting Tier 1 instructional improvements with intervention efforts.
- Using student performance data to refine instructional responses.
- HQIM Fidelity
Ensure effective implementation of district instructional materials by:
- Monitoring classroom implementation of district-adopted curriculum.
- Identifying instructional deviations from HQIM expectations.
- Coaching teachers toward effective implementation of programs such as Amplify Carnegie Learning and other district-approved instructional resources.
- Supporting consistent implementation of district instructional frameworks.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors degree required.
- Masters degree in Education Curriculum & Instruction Educational Leadership or a related field preferred.
Certification
- Valid Texas teaching certificate required.
- Principal certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated success improving student achievement.
- Experience coaching teachers or leading instructional improvement.
- Experience implementing High-Quality Instructional Materials.
- Strong knowledge of instructional best practices in mathematics or literacy.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Deep content expertise in mathematics or literacy instruction.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional practices.
- Ability to analyze classroom instruction and student work.
- Knowledge of effective intervention practices.
- Experience facilitating PLCs.
- Strong coaching and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to prioritize work across multiple campuses.
- Skill in using assessment data to improve instruction.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent travel between campuses.
- Regular classroom observations and coaching.
- Ability to stand walk and move throughout school buildings.
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials up to 25 pounds.
