Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.
The Publications and Data Management (P&DM) and Strategic Engagement and Applications Development (SEAD) Offices at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) are seeking a highly motivated full-time Data Visualization and Visitor Agreement Specialist. The P&DM Office
provides Lab researchers engineers and department heads/managers with information and resources to assess the Labs performance and to navigate the complex landscape of scholarly research including open science.
The SEAD Office handles all non-federal non-procurement contracting/partnerships and intellectual property at PPPL
The selected individual will support the Lab with:
(1) data-driven tools resources and insights to identify prioritize and/or improve workflows best practices for data aggregation curation analysis and visualization for performance metrics risk assessment/reduction and long-term planning;
(2) open science knowledge and expertise to ensure Labs fundamental research are readily available and in compliance with federal public access requirements;
(3) establish a prompt organized workflow for agreement negotiation and execution for existing and new visiting collaborators at PPPL.
Responsibilities
Core duties and responsibilities will include:
Data Visualization (40%):
Lead the development of Lab-wide and department-specific visual dashboards for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other performance metrics
Meet with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs from dashboards
Work with data maintainers of KPIs and performance metrics to ensure quality assurance of data
Assist define establish and recommend metadata schemas that optimize data-driven learning and implementation
Assist data maintainers with improving/refining processes/workflows for data ingestion through Google Sheets or similar tools Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory
Assist PPPL staff with accessing Tableau services including permission settings for Tableau dashboards and data
Assist with identifying and in some cases implementing User Experience/Interface improvements
Assist in identifying new ways to comprehend information for data-driven outcomes
Assist in communicating with Princeton Center for Data Analytics and Reporting (CeDAR) with Tableau server needs and issues
Assist in issue management and prioritization from stakeholders
Inform the Product Owner (Publications and Data Management Division Manager) for Tableau with progress setbacks bugs and feature improvements
Develop and maintain guidance documentation on best practices for using Tableau for Liaison and stakeholders

Visiting Collaborator Agreement Execution & Organization (20%):
Stakeholder Coordination: Acts as the primary liaison between SEAD and the User and Visiting Collaborator Office (UVCO) to track agreement status and approvals and field inquiries from the research staff related to Visiting Collaborator Agreements.
Visual Compliance Screening and Research Security: Executes Restricted Party Screening modules for institutional agreements and coordinates with Research Security Office to resolve any identified flags for debarred parties or foreign entity concerns.
Agreement Processing & Execution: Prepares and routes Visiting Collaborator Agreements to individual Visiting Collaborators and their employers for negotiation and execution based on UVC Request Forms.
Records Audit & Maintenance: Ensures all executed agreements are stored in the database and updated or terminated when necessary.
Lab Public-Private Partnership Capabilities Documentation and Distribution (15%)
Researches documents prepares and maintains a comprehensive "Lab Capabilities" portfolio that highlights unique facilities capabilities expertise and equipment that is available for partnerships with for outside partners.
Manages the integration and regular updating of PPPLs profiles on the DOEs Lab Partnering Service to increase the visibility of lab technologies.
Manages development of a software and data storefront to increase visibility and availability of laboratory developed IP.
SEAD Database Integration/Visibility and Special Projects (15%)
Manages and updates the SEAD internal database to ensure accurate tracking of partnerships intellectual property and historical agreement data. Connects these databases to lab-wide visualization efforts.
Executes ad-hoc projects as they arise such as supporting DOE-funded Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) programs.
Open Science (10%):
Review STI products for copyright clearance and classification level
Collect and submit metadata and appropriate documents for federal reporting
Analyze data and generate reports for STI requirement compliance
Engage with researchers/engineers to maintain their scholarly portfolios through ORCID and Scopus
Assist with management of outstanding research datasets
Assist with guiding researchers with data research submissions
Develop and help maintain training materials for dissemination
Maintain internally facing STI website(s)
Correspond with the research community
Track impact factor indicators for journals/publishers
Respond to data calls and
Review of public access reports.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree is minimally required.
Masters in Library Information Science or a Scientific Technical Engineering or Mathematics field is preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (including unique software/hardware requirements)
We are looking for an individual who has relevant and recent experience in the following areas:
Data Visualization:
Knowledge of and experience with Tableau (Desktop and Server) for developing visual dashboards including advanced features such as dashboard integration through drill-downs calculations database joining automated job execution for extracts data processing workflows with Prep Builder and identity and access management.
Experience developing and using metadata schemas to represent complex or unique information.
Understanding of data metadata and different data types.
Ability to problem solve technical issues with Tableau or other tools. Open Science/Scholarship:
Managing copyright agreements and policies in an open science research environment while meeting federal public access requirements.
Evaluating scientific and technical information products for compliance with federal mandates and directives.
Describing and redescribing STIs following established schema(s).
Handling publication metadata and use of Princeton Library databases.
Agreement and Visitor Support:
Managing visitor agreements and policies to support a National Laboratory research environment while meeting federal and site access requirements.
General technical skills:
Developing reports.
Editing websites.
Experience with Google Workspaces (Sheets Forms Mail Spaces) Microsoft Excel.
Experience with Python or similar programming language.
General soft skills:
Strong communication skills.
Detailed oriented.

- Estimated level of effort is 40 hours per week

The posted salary range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
If the salary range on the posted position shows an hourly rate this is the baseline; the actual hourly rate may be higher depending on the position and factors listed above.
