Description of Work
Start your journey towards success! The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently accepting applications for a Criminal Justice Planner. Learn more about this exciting opportunity with the NCDPS Governors Crime Commission Team. This position is located in Raleigh NC.This position is responsible for planning and providing technical assistance in the development implementation and enhancement of the states Victim Assistance Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant programs. This role provides support consultation promotion and development of programs funded through the above federal grant(s) in the crime victim services and criminal justice systems at the state and local level.
Position activities include but are not limited to the following:
Reviewing proposals for grant funding from state and local organizations that provide services to victims of crime including but not limited to those serving populations impacted by intimate partner violence sexual assault and child abuse.
Supporting the increased effectiveness of current and future grantee projects by identifying areas of improvement emerging needs and/or service gaps consistent with available local and statewide data.
Collaboration with Committee and Commission membership to identify funding priorities consistent with current methodology statewide needs and federal grant program specific requirements.
Completion and submission of state and federal funding and performance reports in compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
Travel and attendance at in-state and out-of-state meetings conferences and workshops to stay abreast of federal regulations programmatic requirements and emerging needs.
Additional skills include:
Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written forms is necessary as this position involves frequent phone contact and email communication with victim services agencies state government agencies law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies.
Ability to communicate ideas in verbal and written formats.
Ability to analyze evaluate and interpret Victim organizational programs.
The Governors Crime Commission (GCC) is the chief advisory body to the Governor and the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety on crime and justice issues. The GCC administers federal and state grants and is the State Administering Agency (SAA) for the following federal block and formula grant programs: Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP) and Childrens Justice Act (CJA). Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to government law enforcement agencies non-profit agencies educational and social service agencies.

This is a full time TIME-LIMITED position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits. We value our employees and are committed to providing flexibility in work schedules. This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis after the first three months of employment.
DPS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals.The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences including Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Management Preferences
- Experience working with crime victims in non-profit agency and/or government agency.
- Working knowledge with federal and/or state grants.
