About the Position

This position leads journey-level Control Technicians on projects and job sites by directing work correcting techniques and defining proper methods for skilled maintenance repair and installation of HVAC hydronic pneumatic and electronic control systems. The position also independently performs skilled maintenance repairs and installations.

Duty: Perform Skilled Repairs Maintenance and Installations

Tasks include:

  • Install modify perform trouble diagnostics test repair calibrate and operate various mechanical pneumatic electrical and electronic equipment and apparatus used in:

- Heating ventilation air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Gas fired kilns
- Boilers
- HVAC and hydronic building balancing
- Outside lighting
- Saltwater pumping systems
- Distillers
- Condensate return pump controls

  • Lay out fabricate and install mechanical pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Perform maintenance troubleshooting and repairs on the Building Automation Controls System (BACS) field devices and interface hardware and Direct Digital Controls (DDC).

Duty: Lead Journey Level Control Technicians by Example

Tasks include:

  • Provide leadership and establish clear lines of communications for all assigned personnel.
  • Keep supervisor informed of daily activities and potential problems concerning training requirements disciplinary issues safety concerns work schedules vacation or leave activities and other issues that could affect the productivity of the shop. Provide documentation of same when needed.
  • Develop approved and accepted methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel.
  • Observe practice and demonstrate safety in all endeavors.
  • Follow appropriate PPE requirements and ensure all assigned personnel do the same.
  • Follow general instructions/direction from supervisor.
  • Comply and ensure compliance with applicable Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations.
  • Comply and ensure compliance with Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) rules and regulations and standard job safety rules.

Duty: Computer Use

Tasks include:

  • Use computer to perform assigned duties and to keep records with proficiency in reading and using various program languages.

Duty: Estimating

Tasks include:

  • Work from blueprints plans and sketches to estimate material and time required for job completion.
  • Provide technical information as needed to assist the job estimator and Facilities Development engineers designers and architects.

Duty: Order and Stock Supplies

Tasks include:

  • Order temperature controls valves and related control parts for repair and installation of electrical mechanical air conditioning refrigeration electronic and pneumatic control systems.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of journey-level experience installing and/or maintaining HVAC and building control systems in an institutional commercial or industrial setting.
  • Ability to work independently and safely in all aspects of the trade.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of combustion controls including electronic and pneumatic systems and hand/auto applications.
  • Effective communication skills including clear oral and written reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills including basic drawings and charts.
  • Ability to manage time effectively work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in hazardous environments including confined spaces and heights above 35 feet.
  • Valid EPA recognized refrigeration handling certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Valid drivers license or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two additional years of journey-level experience installing and/or maintaining HVAC and building control systems in an institutional commercial or industrial setting.
  • Four years of skilled or journey-level experience installing and/or maintaining HVAC systems.
  • Four years of skilled or journey-level experience installing and/or maintaining refrigeration systems.
  • Four years of skilled or journey-level experience in HVAC and hydronic system balancing.
  • Knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) OSHA regulations standard job safety practices and proper respirator use.
  • Knowledge of Siemens Apogee programming protocols.
  • Experience working with related trades such as carpentry welding sheet metal electrical and plumbing in an institutional commercial or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable International Building Codes (IBC) mechanical codes and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an 06 Electrical License.
  • Demonstrated experience working in institutional and commercial environments.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making to determine effective solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot perform repairs and complete preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Commitment to providing good customer service.
  • Responsible and accountable for completing work in accordance with WWU regulations and procedures.
