About the Role

Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI)is looking for an experiencedConstruction Safety Specialistto join our team and support a major capital construction program for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
In this field-based role you will work closely with project teams contractors Port Authority representatives and other stakeholders to help ensure construction activities are performed safely and in compliance with applicable federal state and local safety fire and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in monitoring active construction operations identifying and addressing potential hazards documenting safety findings and supporting a strong culture of safety across complex infrastructure projects.

What Youll Do
  • Review contracts drawings health and safety plans and project documentation for compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Monitor contractor work operations equipment and construction practices to identify hazards and confirm alignment with approved safety programs job hazard analyses contract documents and accepted safety procedures.
  • Conduct comprehensive site safety audits and inspections across active construction projects.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with OSHA FDNY NYC Department of Buildings local laws and other applicable federal state and local regulations.
  • Prepare daily safety reports that include photos observations deficiencies and recommended corrective actions.
  • Investigate accidents incidents and near misses; conduct root-cause analysis; and recommend actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare preliminary information reports related to accident and incident investigations.
  • Partner with Port Authority Resident Engineers agency safety representatives integrity monitors contractors insurance representatives and other project stakeholders.
  • Evaluate contractor construction safety and fire safety programs and provide technical recommendations based on findings.

What Youll Need
  • At least five (5) years of construction safety experience including accident prevention and incident investigation on active construction sites.
  • Valid NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Supervisor Card (SST).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Experience in building construction heavy civil work and major capital construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 standards NYC DOB requirements FDNY requirements local laws and other applicable regulatory agency standards.
  • Knowledge of hazard recognition and assessment incident investigation and reporting root-cause analysis and job hazard analysis.
  • Familiarity with National Fire Codes NFPA standards NYC and New Jersey fire codes and FDNY operations and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication organizational time-management and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety-related tracking or documentation software.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • CHST certification or another recognized construction safety credential.
  • Bachelors degree in safety management Construction Management or a related safety field.
  • Experience supporting OCIP or CCIP projects.
  • Previous Port Authority project experience.
  • Work Environment and Requirements
  • This is a field-based role requiring work at active construction sites. Candidates must be able to safely navigate large active and dynamic construction environments including walking for extended periods climbing stairs ladders and scaffolds and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Evening extended-hour overtime rotating-shift weekend and holiday work may be required based on project needs.
  • The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive background check and fingerprint-based criminal history records check to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) credential where applicable.
