Job Summary
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the school principal the Community Liaison would be a contact between the school and the community; assist with extra curricular school programs; perform clerical duties in support of the school operation related to the community relations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Position assigned to this class may be found in a variety of school settings including the office classroom playground and media center. Incumbents are expected to have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Assigned duties encompass a wide range of supportive tasks for the general operation of the school. The example list of duties is a partial list of representative tasks to positions in this class. Incumbents may perform only some of the duty examples depending upon the school site.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Organize and implement school community programs.
Design and assist in the implementation of the parent education program with the principal. Assist the principal with school community issues as they arise.
Develop and organize the schools Parent Volunteer Program(s).
Organize classroom parent helper program.
Assist with during- and after-school educational programs.
Prepare instructional materials by measuring cutting coloring assembling pasting and laminating.
Coordinate student activities with student groups.
Assist in developing the school safety program.
Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Knowledge of:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Basic methods used in overseeing and directing childrens activities.
Basic methods used in overseeing and directing adult volunteer programs.
Basic arithmetic concepts.
General purposes and goals of public education.
Ability to:
Tutor individual and small groups of students and adults reinforcing instruction in an assigned learning environment.
Understand and apply rules regulations procedures and policies.
Maintain confidentiality of student parent and staff information.
Perform routine clerical tasks and use instructional support equipment.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Licenses and other Certification:
NCLB Certification required in one of three ways:
1) Possession of an Associates Degree (AA);
2) Completion of 48 college semester units (official transcripts required); or
3) Completion and passage of the District-approved NCLB proficiency test.
Training and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent of and some experience working in a community role and working with children.
Working Conditions: Instructional learning environment; subject to bending stooping standing for extended periods walking and occasional lifting.
