Position Title: Communications Assistant (Part-Time)
Position Overview
The Highlands School seeks a creative organized and mission-driven Communications Assistant to support the life and storytelling of our school community. This part-time in-person role is responsible for capturing the daily experiences and special moments that define a Highlands education and sharing them in a way that reflects the schools commitment to excellence in both formation and academics.
The Communications Assistant will play a key role in visual storytelling social media management and the production of the schools weekly newsletter Blazer Blast. This individual will collaborate closely with faculty and staff to ensure timely accurate and engaging communication with our families.
Qualifications
Strong photography skills (professional or advanced amateur experience required)
Proficiency in social media platforms (Instagram Facebook etc.) and content creation tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively and proactively in a dynamic school environment
Alignment with the mission and values of The Highlands School
Canva proficiency
Key Responsibilities
Photography & Visual Storytelling
Capture high-quality photos of school events student life classrooms athletics and special moments across campus
Maintain an organized photo library for marketing and communications use
Ensure images reflect the mission culture and spirit of The Highlands School
Collect organize manage school official photo bank in a timely manner.
Social Media Management
Create schedule and publish content across the schools social media platforms
Develop engaging mission-aligned captions and visual content
Monitor engagement and maintain a consistent positive online presence
Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator on content strategy and campaigns
Weekly Newsletter Blazer Blast
Lead the weekly communications meeting to gather content and updates from departments
Compile write and format the Blazer Blast newsletter
Ensure all information is accurate timely and aligned with school priorities
Coordinate with faculty and staff to meet submission deadlines
Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely reporting to the Communications Coordinator. Will also collaborate with with faculty staff and administration to identify and highlight key stories and events
Support broader communications and marketing initiatives as needed
Uphold the schools standards of professionalism confidentiality and mission alignment in all communications
Schedule & Hours
This is a part-time in-person position averaging approximately 20 hours per week depending on the school calendar and seasonal needs. Some weeks may require additional hours to support special events while others may be lighter. Flexibility in scheduling is essential including occasional evenings or weekends for major school events.
