Certified Medical Coder – Inpatient CMCDS

Job Title: Certified Medical Coder Inpatient (ICD-10 / ED Coding)

Location: Brooklyn NY
Setting: Acute Care Hospital (Inpatient & Emergency Department)
Shift: Day Shift 8:00 AM 4:00 PM
Schedule: Monday Friday

We are seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder (Inpatient) to support acute care coding operations in a hospital setting in Brooklyn New York. The ideal candidate will have strong inpatient and emergency department coding experience along with advanced knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines and hospital reimbursement standards.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can accurately code complex inpatient medical records while ensuring compliance with federal payer and facility regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate inpatient and ED coding using ICD-10-CM CPT and HCPCS guidelines

• Abstract and assign diagnoses and procedure codes from clinical documentation

• Ensure compliance with federal state and payer coding regulations

• Utilize 3M/HDS encoder systems and coding tools for accurate assignment

• Review clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy

• Identify and resolve coding discrepancies and documentation issues

• Maintain productivity and quality standards in a fast-paced environment

• Collaborate with clinical staff auditors and revenue cycle teams

• Apply anatomy physiology and disease process knowledge for accurate coding

• Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required

• Active certification required (CCS CCP RHIA or RHIT)

• Minimum 3 years of inpatient coding experience required

• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines

• Proven experience in inpatient and emergency department coding

• Familiarity with 3M/HDS encoder systems preferred

• Strong understanding of anatomy physiology and disease processes

• Ability to research and resolve complex coding issues independently

• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills

• Strong computer proficiency (MS Word Excel and coding systems)
