The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports healthcare providers by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient care and smooth office operations. This role requires strong organizational skills attention to detail and excellent patient communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
Record vital signs medical history and patient information
Assist physicians during exams and minor procedures
Administer medications and injections as directed
Perform basic lab tests (e.g. blood draws urinalysis)
Maintain and sterilize medical equipment
Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols
Administrative Duties:
Schedule patient appointments and manage calendars
Verify insurance and patient information
Maintain accurate medical records (EMR/EHR systems)
Handle patient intake documentation and charting
Process billing and coding information as needed
Answer phones and provide customer service to patients
Qualifications:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required
High School Diploma or equivalent (Associates degree preferred)
1 year of clinical or medical office experience preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures
Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Certifications (as required):
CMA (AAMA) or equivalent certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
