Undergeneralsupervision oftheForemanperform a varietyof roughand finish carpentryduties tomaintainremodelandrepair all school buildingsandoffices.Utilize a variety ofhand andpowertoolsand knowledge of blueprint readingconstructsheds and other similarstructures; erect walls ceilings andpartitions;construct cabinets andcountertops; andrepairand install roofs windowsanddoors etc.

Supervision Scope:Performs duties of a responsible and varied nature requiring independent judgment with assigned responsibilities as well as in the operation and maintenance of a variety of departmental equipment.
Supervision Received:Works under the general direction of the Foreman receiving specific instructions regarding projects and areas of assigned responsibility.

Job Environment:
Work isperformedinside and on many or all of the floorsincluding thebasementof theassignedbuilding as wellasoutdoorsatwhich timetheincumbent may be exposed to weather extremes of heat andcoldtemperatures and inclement weather.Incumbentisrequired to traverse uneven terrain may be requiredtoclimborstoop andissubject to one or more hazardssuch asthose associated with workingnearheavy equipment chemicalsandelectricity. Work environment canbemoderately noisy.Whenemergency situationsoccurthe carpenter may be required to respond.
Regularly operates maintenanceequipment powerhandand/orpneumatictools.
Interacts frequently withotherdepartment employeesand the public. Communication is generally in person and involves a communication exchange dialogue.
Errorsinjudgment may impose undueandsubstantial expense recovering fromerrors resulting in significant time lossanddelay whilecorrecting undetectederrorscausingdamage to buildingsand/orequipment resultinginseriouspersonalinjury and/or injury to others.

Functionswithinscopeof School Buildings constructionand maintenancepolicies and procedures.Conferwith Foreman onmattersofmaterials/tool selectionand oncertain project priorities.
Perform a varietyof rough and finish carpentryduties to maintain remodelandrepair all school buildingsand offices.
Prepare rough construction drawings as necessarytoensure the proper dimensions and locations ofwork to be performed. Repair locks doors and windows and perform other related building maintenance and repair duties.
Determinematerialsandequipment necessary to performprojects and order and pick up buildingmaterials as authorized. Coordinate work inprogressand work to be performed with outside contractorsplastererselectricians plumbersetc.and consult withForeman asnecessarytoensure timely completion of maintenanceandconstruction projects. Ensure adherenceto applicablesafety rulesandregulations.Shovel snow from ramps walkwaysandstairs and spread sand/salt asnecessary.
Perform related dutiesasassigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
EducationTraining andExperience:
High School diploma;five years verifiable experienceasa Carpenter; dependable work history required.A valid MA Construction Supervisor License preferred.
SpecialRequirements:
Must possess a valid Massachusetts drivers license. Must successfully pass: Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) Fingerprint-based State and National Criminal Record Check background check alcohol and drug test and physical with lift test.

Knowledge:
Mustmaintain acurrent knowledge ofstandards methods practices tools and equipment inthe areas ofassigned responsibility according to Massachusetts State Code.
Ability:
Ability tocoordinatework followinstruction the operation of applicable tools andrelatedequipment;abilityto work effectivelyundertime constraintsand meetdeadlines.
Skill:
Mustbeable to performrough and finishcarpentry duties.
PhysicalandMentalRequirements:
While performingthefunctionsofthisjob theemployee is required to stand walk sittalkandhear forextendedperiods.Frequently requireduse handsto finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reaches with hands and arms crawls and climbs. Specific vision abilities required include close and medium distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb ladders at various heights. Incumbent must be able to hear normal sounds distinguish sound as voice patterns and communicate through human speech. The incumbent is required to liftand carry equipment and supplies weighingup to60 pounds.
