Mercury is a seed-stage software startup that enables utilities and data centers to exchange power capacity for load flexibility unlocking additional power capacity for data centers while helping utilities better utilize their existing infrastructure and capture load growth.
Our solution brings additional power capacity to existing and new-build datacenters available in months instead of 5 years for a typical interconnection. Mercury unlocks this power capacity via utility data center flexible capacity programs including data center evaluation technical integration and ongoing dispatch and compliance monitoring. The platform is agnostic to and integrates across data center flexibility solutions including workload orchestration/GPU optimization behind-the-meter storage and/or generation and bring-your-own capacity solutions.
We are actively piloting Mercury with Duke Energy in the Carolinas where we have enabled the first flexible data center capacity expansion project with real-world AI workloads. Were establishing several other pilot programs with many of the largest US utilities as well as a full-scale 100MW project with a power first data center partner which is in the design phase and slated for launch in 2027.
Mercury is funded by Banyan Ventures international energy conglomerates AI and crypto specialists as well as Powerhouse Ventures the leading utility-backed VC. Were partnered with Joules Accelerator at Duke Energy the Energy Innovation Center at Dominion Energy and Googles AI for Energy Accelerator.
Mercury is hiring its first Business Administrator to keep the operational backbone of a fast-moving seed-stage startup running smoothly. This is an entry-level or early-career role for someone who wants hands-on exposure to how a startup actually operates finance HR vendor management and executive support while working directly with the founding team.
Youll be the person who makes sure invoices get paid meetings get scheduled new hires get set up and the small details that keep a growing company organized dont fall through the cracks. As Mercury scales this role will grow with the company; the person who takes it on has real potential to own bigger pieces of business operations over time.
This role is based out of our Boulder CO headquarters working in person alongside the founding team.
Keep the business running process invoices and expense reports manage vendor relationships and renewals track budgets against spend and support basic bookkeeping in coordination with our accountant/bookkeeper.
Support the team manage calendars and scheduling for the founding team coordinate travel for conferences and customer/utility meetings and organize internal team events and offsites.
Own onboarding and HR admin set up new hires with equipment accounts and paperwork; maintain employee records and benefits administration; support recruiting logistics like scheduling interviews and coordinating with candidates.
Keep us organized maintain and organize company files contracts and records; keep shared drives and internal documentation up to date; help track and follow up on action items from leadership meetings.
Support fundraising and board logistics help prepare and organize materials for board meetings and investor updates; track data requests and follow-ups during fundraising processes.
Pitch in wherever needed as a small-team startup youll be asked to help across functions from light research to helping prep for customer meetings and conferences.
03 years of professional experience (internships count); no specific degree or background required. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a track record of following through on tasks without needing reminders. Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities startup life means the job description evolves. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with common office and productivity tools (Google Workspace spreadsheets calendar management); comfort picking up new tools quickly. A proactive no task too small attitude and genuine curiosity about how a startup operates.
Pragmatic judgment-driven use of AI tools: you know when using AI to draft an email summarize a document or speed up a task is a smart shortcut and when its the wrong call for anything involving sensitive company financial or legal information or decisions that need real judgment. You use AI to move faster not to think less; you still understand whats actually happening in the business can explain and stand behind any work you produce and never let a tool introduce risk or errors you didnt catch.
Prior experience in an office manager executive assistant or operations support role even informally. Exposure to basic bookkeeping expense management or HR administration tools (e.g. QuickBooks Gusto Rippling). Interest in energy climate or data center/infrastructure markets. Experience at a small company or startup.
This role starts as an hourly part-time position while we get up to speed and the role takes shape. As Mercury grows and the roles responsibilities expand theres a clear path to convert to a full-time salaried position with equity and full health benefits. Direct mentorship from the founding team and significant room to grow into a broader operations role as Mercury scales.
