Job Summary

PAY GRADE: C

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE: This is the first level in the series. Incumbents are responsible for monitoring and securing special needs and other students. Monitors bus equipment use and student behavior and safety.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  1. Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations to include operation of specialized equipment for attending to students with special needs including car seats wheelchairs seat belts lifts and/or other applicable equipment.
  2. Monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct at all times and adherence to appropriate disciplinary controls.
  3. Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities to include attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids.
  4. Responds to and/or resolves inquiries and/or concerns from parents demonstrating compassion and understanding.
  5. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):

Licensing Requirements:

Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment;

Ability to complete wheelchair and special needs handling training.

Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)

KNOWLEDGE: (position requirements at entry):

Knowledge of:

  • Customer service principles;
  • First aid practices.

SKILLS: (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

Providing customer service;

Maintaining order among students on a bus;

Operating maneuvering and/or controlling the actions of safety restraint and wheelchair lift devices

Communication interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisor the general public etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 125 pounds of force for testing up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to fumes odors and extreme temperatures.
