Bore Machine Operator

We are seeking an experienced Boring Machine Operator / Night Shift Manual Machinist with a strong background in pump machining and horizontal boring mill (HBM) operations. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of machining experience including align bore work on Lucas and G&L horizontal boring mills. This position requires the ability to work from blueprints sketches planning sheets verbal instructions and engineering or tooling information while maintaining precision quality and safety standards.

The successful candidate will contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives work independently with limited supervision and support a team-oriented production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate multiple production machines safely and efficiently.
• Operate Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM) including Lucas and G&L machines.
• Perform align boring operations and precision machining on pump components and related equipment.
• Operate manual lathes VTLs (Vertical Turning Lathes) milling machines and other manual machining equipment.
• Work from blueprints sketches planning sheets engineering drawings tooling instructions and verbal direction.
• Perform machining operations where materials tooling and process sequences have been pre-planned and established.
• Make machine adjustments and report improper machine operation or tooling issues for correction.
• Adjust machine feeds speeds and depth of cut to produce quality parts within required tolerances.
• Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment including:
  • Calipers
  • Micrometers
  • Gauges
  • Comparators
  • Magnification and microscope equipment
• Deburr precision and complex machine parts using hand and power tools.
• Accurately perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) procedures and complete required documentation.
• Follow established manufacturing methods using standard production machines materials and tooling.
• Contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve productivity quality and cost efficiency.
• Maintain a clean organized and safe work area in compliance with all company policies and safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of manual machining experience required.
• Extensive experience operating Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM) preferably Lucas and G&L brands.
• Strong align bore machining experience preferred.
• Pump machining experience required.
• Experience operating:
  • Manual Lathes
  • Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs)
  • Milling Machines
  • Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM)
• Ability to independently perform machine setups and precision machining operations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints engineering drawings specifications and route sheets.
• Strong understanding of machine shop mathematics including trigonometry.
• Experience maintaining close tolerances and producing precision-machined components.
• Knowledge of SPC processes and quality inspection procedures.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision in a team environment.
• Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety quality and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in pump repair or rotating equipment manufacturing.
• Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Night shift manufacturing experience preferred.

Work Environment

• Industrial machine shop environment.
• Night shift position.
• Frequent standing lifting bending and operation of heavy machinery.
• Must be able to safely handle tools materials and precision-machined components.
