Job Summary
The City of Fairburn is seeking to fill an Automotive Technician who is experienced professional with extensive automotive technical Automotive Technician is responsible for the inspection repairs and maintenance of city-owned vehicles and equipment. This position is responsible for some fabrication and welding work related to the repair of vehicles.G1 ASE or Manufacturer certifications preferred. Experience working in General Automotive Service industry or Fleet Maintenance. The Automotive Technician reports to the Automotive Supervisor.
Hiring Range: $22.89 - $25.18 Hourly Rate (Depending on qualifications)
Work Days/Hours: Monday Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY
The Automotive Technician is responsible for the inspection repairs and maintenance of city-owned vehicles and equipmentincluding lawn maintenance equipment. This position is responsible for some fabrication and welding work related to the repair of vehicles. G1 ASE Certifications Automotive Technician reports to the Automotive Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing repairing adjusting overhauling assembling disassembling and replacing major assemblies components parts or systems such as: power and drive trains electrical air conditioning fuel emission brakes steering hydraulics; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads gear tooth contact valve mechanisms governors oil systems control linkages clutches and traction units.
- Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on all city owned vehicles and equipment.
- Inventories stock places orders verifies receipts.
- Works with vehicle operators to identify issues
- Maintains vehicle records up to date by recording services and repairs
- Maintains safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures rules and regulations
- Tracks stores inspects or properly disposes of hazardous materials on site
- Responsible for repairs on minor body damage
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school or GED;supplementedbythree (3)years ofautomotive repair experience; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid State ofGeorgiadrivers license;G1 ASE Certifications or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment; Series ASE certification of ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment
Special Requirements:
This position isdeemedsafety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
KnowledgeSkillsand Abilities:
Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations.
Knowledge of safety practices in the use of hand tools equipment and suppliesused in repair and maintenance of motorized vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge of the standardpractices materialstoolsand equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines
Ability to read mechanical and automotive blueprintsdiagramsand manuals
Ability to disassemble repair and assemble engines and parts
Ability to communicatewith vehicle andequipment users and other mechanics about required repairs
Ability to communicate clearly and effective in English in person and over the phone.
Ability todemonstratesensitivitytactand excellent customer service
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in automotive/equipment components or systems and make minor and major repairs.
Ability to prepare paperworkfor records and data entry.
Ability to work in a team-based environment.
Skill in developing andmaintainingeffective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and that may involve the lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderatelyheavy objects and materials. Some tasks require the ability to perceive anddiscriminatecolors or shades of colors sounds depth texture and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORKENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in ashopenvironment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse conditions such as dirtodors fumes temperature and noise extremes machinery vibrations electriccurrentsortoxic agents.
