About the Role:
- Join the Data Foundations team and help build the data infrastructure that powers Growth and Emerging Business initiatives.
- As an Associate Data Engineer youll work alongside experienced engineers to build and support data pipelines across our cloud-native stack learning by doing from day one.
- Youll be expected to embrace AI-assisted development using Claude as a core part of how you write code debug problems and grow as an engineer.
Key Responsibilities Build & Support Pipelines:
- Develop and maintain ELT/ETL pipelines using Databricks and dbt moving and transforming data across Snowflake and Azure under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Write Reliable Code: Write SQL and Python for data transformations quality checks and pipeline logic; follow team standards for testing branching and code reviews via Git and Azure DevOps.
- Use AI to Move Faster: Use Claude daily to draft code debug issues and explore solutions learn to critically evaluate and own AI-generated output rather than just accepting it.
- Deliver in Agile Sprints: Participate actively in Scrum ceremonies standups sprint planning and retrospectives; take ownership of your commitments and communicate progress clearly.
- Support Data Reliability: Help implement data validation checks freshness monitoring and alerting so the team can trust the data it ships to partners and consumers.
- Collaborate with the Reporting Team: Work closely with the Reporting team and senior engineers to understand what data is needed in what shape and ensure pipelines meet those needs reliably.
- Support Production Operations: Participate in on-call rotation as a secondary responder; learn incident triage runbook usage and how to diagnose and escalate production issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience. 0-2 years of experience in data engineering software engineering or a data-focused role.
- Proficiency in SQL; working knowledge of Python.
- Familiarity with cloud data concepts and at least one cloud platform (Azure preferred).
- Exposure to Git or version control; comfort working in a collaborative code review environment.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude GitHub Copilot or similar) as part of your development workflow.
- Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine drive to learn in a fast-moving environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with dbt Databricks or Snowflake even through coursework or personal projects.
- Exposure to Azure Data Factory Azure Data Lake Storage or similar services.
- Experience building small automation scripts or workflows using AI assistance.
