Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Branch Director the person selected for this position will be responsible for planning and implementing effective and well-rounded age-appropriate group music and art classes for YMCA youth. The instructor ensures classroom efforts in all aspects of programming and implements including classroom curriculum child records communicates information to families and maintains a safe healthy warm engaging and interactive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Key Functions/Responsibilities
  • Create age-appropriate music lessons that engage the group of children.
  • Create a curriculum incorporating a variety of songs finger plays dancing simple instruments arts & crafts and other instructional material/resources.
  • Take a playful and active approach to capture the attention of the children.
  • Must attend staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Notify supervisor of any problems that arise.
  • Perform other duties as designated by the supervisors.
  • Is knowledgeable in and adheres to the rules regulations and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Boston.
  • Is active in branch-related activities and communicates regularly with other department staff.

Abuse Risk Management
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
Complete all required abuse prevention training.
Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations.
Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and respond to violations using the organizations procedures and policies.

Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Education and Experience:
2 Years Experience instructing children in Arts or movement related activities.
First Aid and CPR certified within the first 6 months of employment.
Excellent skills in working with families conflict resolution and community relations.
Knowledge of group processes with the ability to make contributions to a positive team dynamic
Commitment to the philosophy and goals of the YMCA.
Effective leadership skills and crisis management skills.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to kneel reach bend push digital dexterity balance crouch stand pull grasp repetitive motions stoop crawl walk lift talk hear sit and sing.
The employee may occasionally need to exercise these physical labor demands:
Occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include:
Close/far vision ability to adjust focus peripheral vision color perception depth perception field of vision.
Acute hearing is essential to this position.
