Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

Patrol

  • Informs the LieutenantPatrol Armed Security Officer Lead or supervisor of any unusual situations or circumstances that come to their attention.
  • Patrol assigned areas securing scheduled buildings and ensuring safety of university property.
  • Patrol assigned areas of the university property making inquiries and inspection oriented towards protecting of life and property preventing crime and accidents.
  • Maintain regular radio contact with the Communication Center reporting any unusual situations and requesting assistance from police or fire.
  • Properly investigate all assigned incidents that occur on university property and document the findings of the investigation on department report forms.
  • Observes and reports any faulty or unsafe equipment and/or conditions.
  • Enforces University safety parking and traffic regulations by the issuance of University citations.
  • Provides emergency first aid to injured or ill person(s) and assists in the transportation of these persons when necessary.
  • Admits authorized person(s) into secured buildings facilities and rooms during business and non-business hours.
  • Responds to building alarms.
  • Responds to calls for assistance.
  • Assists stranded motorists by jump-starting batteries changing flat tires and pushing disabled vehicles.
  • Provides crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations.
  • Provides basic information direction and assistance to university personnel students and visitors.
  • Gilcrease Museum
    • Conducting daily verification of gallery inventories.
    • Monitoring the museums CCTV and alarm systems.
    • Assisting with the daily opening and closing of the museum.

Security

  • Makes crucial decisions under stress and is held accountable for the result.
  • De-escalates difficult situations and accompanies unauthorized individuals off university owned and controlled property.
  • Determines when and under what circumstances to use non-lethal or deadly force.
  • Defend themselves and others in actual physical combat.
  • Provides security during the transportation of large sums of cash and/or other valuables.

Administrative

  • Investigates all assigned incidents and accurately documents the investigation results into an incident reporting system.
  • Accurately completes all necessary administrative forms and reports.
  • Testifies clearly and truthfully during campus conduct hearings and legal court proceedings.
  • Required to complete all assigned University and department training.

Special Considerations

  • May be subjected to bodily harm with the possibility of loss of life.
  • May be subjected to public criticism and social pressures that create stress.
  • May encounter both health and safety hazards and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Occasionally remain on duty beyond assigned shift in the event of an emergency.
  • Occasionally work outside assigned shift hours due to an increased workload or special university events.
  • Occasional additional duties as determined by the University department Director of TUSecurity Captain Patrol or Captain - Gilcrease.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

Equivalent Education/Experience
  • Proficiency utilizing a computer with Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and Teams software;
  • Excellent written verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially dangerous and emotional situations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to exercise total discretion in managing sensitive and confidential information;
  • Ability to meet and maintain the firearms qualification standards established by the University of Tulsa Security Department;
  • Ability to successfully meet and maintain the physical fitness standards established by the University of Tulsa Security Department.
  • Be at least 21 years of age;
  • High School Diploma orGED;
  • Valid OK State Drivers License;
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical examination vision screening and a 10-panel drug screening;
  • Ability to meet and maintain the requirements set forth in 59 O.S. section 1750.1 et seq. The Oklahoma Security Guard and Private Investigator Act; Must be eligible to be certified forCLEET: Phases 1-4 (Private Investigator & Armed) within (6) months of appointment;
  • Previous experience in physical security loss prevention military service or close protection. (Preferred)

Special Job Dimensions:

The Armed Security Officer position requires physical stamina to perform assigned shift in all types of environmental conditions safely operate a motor vehicle safely perform bicycle patrols perform foot patrol stand for extended periods of time defend themselves and others in actual physical combat occasionally lift and move people or heavy objects climb or jump physical obstacles and run various distances.

This position requires shift work - hours and days may be required to work holidays weekends and/or after hours for special events hosted on university be subject to call back in the event of an emergency or because of special events. Will be assigned a primary location but may be required to work at a different site on occasion e.g. main campus Oxley Health Sciences Facility Gilcrease Museum.
