Position Summary

The Area Coordinator for Residence Life is a full-time professional staff member responsible for the overall management supervision and operation of seven (7) residential homes located surrounding the Livingstone College campus. These homes collectively house approximately forty (40) upper-class and non-traditional students.

The Area Coordinator is responsible for fostering a safe supportive educational and community-oriented living environment that promotes student success accountability leadership development and personal responsibility. The Area Coordinator directly supervises the Resident Assistants (RAs) assigned to each home and ensures compliance with all Livingstone College housing policies community standards and the Student Code of Conduct.

This position requires strong leadership crisis management student development and administrative skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively with students campus partners and the surrounding community.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Residential Community Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of seven residential homes affiliated with Livingstone College.
  • Ensure that all residential homes are safe clean secure and conducive to student learning and development.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the homes to ensure compliance with health safety and housing regulations.
  • Monitor occupancy room assignments and housing concerns in coordination with the Office of Residence Life.
  • Assist with housing openings closings check-ins check-outs and room condition assessments.

Student Conduct and Accountability

  • Ensure that residents adhere to all house rules Livingstone College policies and the Student Standards of Conduct.
  • Address behavioral concerns policy violations and community disturbances in a timely and professional manner.
  • Document incidents and submit reports to the Dean of Students & Residence Life as required.
  • Serve as a conduct officer or provide recommendations related to residential conduct matters when appropriate.
  • Promote responsible citizenship conflict resolution and respectful community living among residents.

Supervision and Staff Development

  • Directly supervise the Resident Assistants assigned to each residential home.
  • Provide leadership guidance support and ongoing evaluation of RA staff performance.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings training sessions and one-on-one supervisory meetings with RAs.
  • Assist in the recruitment selection and training of Resident Assistants and other student leaders.
  • Ensure RAs complete assigned duties programming requirements rounds and incident documentation.

Student Engagement and Programming

  • Collaborate with Resident Assistants to develop and implement educational social cultural wellness and leadership programs for residents.
  • Promote student engagement community building academic success and personal development.
  • Encourage participation in campus activities and institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation and assessment of residential programming efforts.

Crisis Response and On-Call Responsibilities

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies student crises and after-hours incidents.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation as assigned by the Office of Residence Life.
  • Coordinate with Campus Police Counseling Services Facilities and other campus departments during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Provide support and appropriate referrals for students experiencing personal or academic difficulties.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records reports occupancy data and incident documentation.
  • Assist with policy enforcement procedural updates and departmental initiatives.
  • Support departmental assessment retention efforts and strategic goals.
  • Attend departmental meetings trainings and institutional events as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working in student affairs residence life housing counseling education or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor student leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal communication organizational and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work evenings weekends and on-call hours as necessary.
  • Valid drivers license preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Higher Education Student Affairs Counseling Educational Leadership or a related field.
  • Previous residence life or housing management experience.
  • Experience with students conduct administration and crisis response.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in residential education.
