POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for providing support to breeding or farrowing team. Work with your manager on establishing a schedule and weekend rotations will be included.

Tasks are dependent upon the department but may include:

• Provide care for animals ensuring they have access to food water and a comfortable environment
• Assist with movement of animals
• Treat and vaccinate animals
• Maintain accurate documentation
• Assist in power washing
• Promote a safe work environment
• Maintain PQA certification status (provided on the job)
• Follow all SFI bio-security policies and procedures
• Exhibit strong teamwork including working to achieve team goals embracing new technologies working on new projects etc.
• Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation
• Demonstrate Schwartz Farms values of humility care integrity discipline and excellence.
• Advocate and engage in SFIs animal welfare policy including promoting animal well-being remedying circumstances which impede animal care and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse
• Maintain and promote a safe working environment
• Additional duties may be assigned as they arise
