Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Administrative Assistant to provide professional support to the Office of Veterinary Services including the Program Manager who is responsible for monitoring animal health animal welfare and emergency response for the agency. Duties include providing support by performing an extensive variety of administrative assignments such as answering phones; overseeing Freedom of Information Act requests and responses; managing animal biologics requests; scheduling appointments and making travel arrangements; maintaining filing systems; reviewing and processing paperwork travel requests reimbursements purchasing and vouchers/requisitions; and maintaining office supplies and equipment. Once onboarded this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability hours and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealths telework policy.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable secretarial or office services experience involving performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties. Ability to deal frequently with internal and external contacts on a variety of issues relating to office programs. Knowledge of administrative procedures and automated office processes. Ability to effectively utilize word processing and other types of office equipment. Ability to plan organize and complete work in a timely manner. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Current or recent experience in a similar administrative support position that includes making travel arrangements; maintaining files; reviewing and processing vouchers and requisitions; and procuring office supplies and equipment. H.S. Diploma/GED required.

A combination of related education training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge skills and abilities to include understanding in business administration or related field.
