Main Purpose of Job

This position is the full performance of activity therapy support work assisting with the provision of prescribed activity therapy programs tailored by Therapeutic Recreators to promote the physical cognitive mental emotional and social behavioral growth of mentally ill patients at Spring Grove Hospital Center. This position provides appropriate activity therapy modalities that will address patient individual treatment goals to promote positive change in behavior in areas of psychological social recreational cognitive and physical well-being through effective therapeutic recreation programming. This position is emergency essential and is required to have and maintain a valid Maryland Drivers License and be able to drive a state vehicle in accordance with State of Maryland policies and procedures for drivers of state vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional to include assisting in patient/client assessments for mentally ill aged physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentally disabled clients.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in health services human services education or the behavioral sciences for two years of the required experience.

2. Candidate may substitute possession of a Bachelors degree in art therapy dance therapy music therapy or therapeutic recreation for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Therapeutic Recreation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classificationmay be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employeesassigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operatorslicense valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in some positions may berequired to operate vehicles which require a Class C motor vehicleoperators license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classificationmay be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification ofcardio-pulmonary resuscitation training.

4. Employees in thisclassificationat facilities with a swimming pool may be required toobtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safetyprior to permanent appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
