The Operational Control Centre (OCC) Technical Trainer plays a critical role in the ongoing development and capability building of wastewater Controllers following their initial onboarding at Southern Water.
You will be responsible for delivering consistent high-quality technical training and development aligned with individual career progression while championing Southern Waters core value of Always Improving.
This role is key to building a highly capable confident and consistent Operational Control Centre team. You will directly contribute to improving performance developing talent and driving Southern Waters ambition to be an industry-leading centre of excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design implement and manage tailored development plans aligned to individual needs.
- Ensure all employees operate consistently against established processes training frameworks and technical standards.
- Lead the continued development of OCC waste controllers post-induction acting as the primary technical trainer to ensure they are supported in applying their skills in a safe structured environment and building the confidence and competence required to work independently
- Identify capability gaps risks and areas of limitation within the OCC working in partnership with the OCC Waste Leadership Team to design and implement targeted training interventions to address them.
- Use insights from audits performance data and root cause analysis to drive focused training and improvement actions.
- Record monitor and report training outcomes to the OCC Waste Leadership Team using agreed metrics to ensure traceability and continuous review.
- Promote and embed Southern Waters values across the OCC fostering a culture of learning accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with the Continuous Improvement and Training teams to challenge performance raise standards and proactively identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement across the control centre supporting the ambition of becoming a centre of excellence.
What youll bring to the role:
To be successful in this role you will be a confident and engaging communicator with a passion for making a difference by delivering high-quality relevant training tailored to your audience.
- A relevant Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) such as AET or Business Coaching
- Strong knowledge of the wastewater industry
- Experience working within a control centre operations or scheduling environment
- A solid understanding of different learning styles and the ability to adapt approaches accordingly
- Proven experience delivering training coaching or teaching (both 1:1 and group settings)
- Strong coaching and feedback skills with the ability to support effective development conversations
- Experience creating and delivering technical training materials
- Excellent communication presentation and organisational skills
- Strong time management and prioritisation capabilities
- Experience establishing effective feedback loops to drive performance improvement
