As the UKs first accredited Nature City Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan and investing in the protection restoration and enhancement of its natural environment. We are looking to recruit a Conservation and Woodland Team Leader to oversee the delivery of biodiversity projects woodland management and conservation activities across the city.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the team ensuring that resources are effectively planned and available and that projects and operational tasks are delivered safely to the required standard and within agreed timescales.

Working closely with colleagues across the Ranger Service and wider Greenspace teams you will help ensure the successful delivery of practical conservation work that contributes directly to nature recovery across Birmingham.

In this active and varied leadership role you will guide and support a dedicated team working across Birminghams parks woodlands nature reserves and open spaces. From habitat restoration and tree planting to sustainable timber production and estate management you will ensure high-quality delivery of work that enhances and protects the citys natural environment.

You will also play an important role in supporting partnership working with Rangers volunteers community groups and work experience placements helping to deliver projects that improve biodiversity restore habitats and create resilient landscapes for future generations.

Key responsibilities include:

• managing the day-to-day workload priorities and deployment of the Conservation and Woodland team
• ensuring adequate resources equipment and materials are available to deliver planned work programmes
• overseeing the delivery of conservation woodland and estate management projects to required standards timescales and specifications
• monitoring performance quality and compliance ensuring all work is delivered safely and in line with relevant legislation and best practice
• supporting and developing staff volunteers and work placements to build skills and capacity across the team
• working collaboratively with Rangers partners and stakeholders to deliver biodiversity and nature recovery projects aligned to the City of Nature 25-Year Plan
• ensuring effective planning reporting and recording of work activities and outcomes

Our ideal candidate will be committed to ensuring the delivery of high-quality nature conservation projects and estate management. You must hold a full UK driving licence and possess a relevant qualification as well as:

• significant experience in practical nature conservation or environmental initiatives
• proven ability to complete tasks in complex and physically demanding outdoor environments
• experience planning tasks and allocating staff resources effectively as well as the ability to supervise others and ensure safe working practices.
• demonstrated leadership of individuals or teams in land management or conservation settings
• experience of handling public enquiries
• understanding and application of key health and safety standards
