The Role

• Operating a range of vehicles including 7.5t box vans cage vehicles 652 sweepers HIAB vehicles and winter maintenance gritting lorries across Bristol.
• Carrying out daily vehicle checks to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate reporting all defects in line with Bristol Waste Company (BWC) policies and procedures and ensure the condition of the vehicle is cleaned and maintained both inside and out.
• Collect and remove Fly Tipped waste from adopted highways across Bristol.
• Tipping of vehicle at designated and approved refuse facility and loading and unloading wastematerialsinaccordancewithBristolWaste Companyspolicyprocedurestraining and legal requirements complying with all health and safety requirements.
• To ensure all company Health and Safety requirements are adhered to including to ensure that safe lifting and working practices are observed and appropriate personal protective clothing is always worn.
• Use mobile IT equipment and to complete daily paperwork as appropriate.
• Undertake any training/ instruction required to carry out these duties and or deemed necessary to fulfil the role.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the collection vehicle and equipment.
• To remain in contact with the line manager and office staff and be responsive to operational needs.
• To work flexibly to provide cover as operationally required across the services including Commercial Street Cleansing Garden Waste Refuse and Recycling and across all Bristol Waste locations including Hartcliffe Avonmouth and Albert Road Depots and to carry out all other tasks deemed reasonable.

Essential Requirements

• Must have a full clean Category C UK driving licence and be CPC qualified.
• Strong practical skills in manual handling lifting and safe operation of equipment. Proven experience in manual handling and working in physically demanding environments.
• Ability to use mobile IT devices to record work follow instructions and complete daily documentation.
• Effective communication skills enabling clear updates to supervisors and teamwork with colleagues.
• Good situational awareness and safety focus ensuring safe working practices in public spaces and roadside environments.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload even in changing operational conditions.
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements including PPE manual handling and safe working procedures.
• Understanding of waste handling and disposal processes including segregation and legal compliance.
• Familiarity with local geography particularly Bristols streets depots and disposal facilities.
• Basic understanding of vehicle cleanliness and equipment care requirements.
• Take part in the on-call rota during winter maintenance season (October March).
• The ability to gain winter maintenance qualifications.
