HGV Driver

Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable and experienced HGV Driver / Team Leader to join our Waste Collection Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating an HGV vehicle while leading a team of Waste Operatives in the collection of household and commercial waste across the borough.

You will play a key role in ensuring waste and recycling collections are completed efficiently safely and in accordance with service standards. The role typically involves supervising two Waste Loaders although additional team members may be assigned when required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate HGV collection vehicles in accordance with road traffic legislation and company procedures.
  

• Lead and supervise a team of Waste Operatives during daily collection rounds.
  

• Collect household and commercial waste recyclables organic waste and bulky/special waste from various locations including:
  

• Ensure all collections are completed efficiently and on schedule.
  

• Maintain high standards of customer service and professionalism when interacting with residents and businesses.
  

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations safe working practices and environmental standards.
  

• Monitor team performance and provide guidance to Waste Operatives where required.
  

• Complete relevant paperwork reports and vehicle documentation accurately.
  

• Report incidents accidents missed collections and operational issues to management.
  

• Ensure waste is collected transported and disposed of in accordance with applicable legislation and council procedures.
  

Essential Requirements

• Valid HGV driving licence appropriate for the vehicle being operated.
  

• Clean driving licence with no significant endorsements.
  

• Must have held a valid HGV licence for a minimum of 1 year.
  

• Must be readily available to work AM shift patterns.
  

• Previous experience driving HGV vehicles in a waste collection logistics or similar operational environment.
  

• Ability to lead and motivate a small team.
  

• Good knowledge of road safety regulations and safe vehicle operation.
  

• Strong communication and organizational skills.
  

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  

• Physically fit and able to support operational activities where required.
  

• Willingness to adhere to and sign the Drivers Handbook upon appointment.
