Job Summary

Salary:NJC Grade D: 26824 - 28598 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked) additional allowance available for the right candidate

Please note that the pro-rata salary for this role is between 19867(D8) and 21181(D12) gross per annum (subject to change depending on agreed working pattern on appointment)

Working Pattern:This is a permanent positionworking 32hours per week 39weeks per year (Monday to Friday)

Pilton Community College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Cover Supervisor for September 2026. This post provides a great introduction to teaching and learning and could be the gateway to a future teaching role. The post holder will be responsible for covering the absence of colleagues in order to achieve the highest possible standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for students behaviour following Pilton protocols while they are undertaking the work to ensure a positive learning environment. The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships and communication with parents and students and will be required to work consistently whilst recognising and responding to individual students needs.

About the Role

Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff you will supervise whole classes across a range of subjects delivering preprepared lessons and ensuring students remain focused on task and engaged in their learning. You will also provide general support to pupils by answering questions managing behaviour and fostering a positive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising classes for absent teachers and ensuring accurate registration of students
  • Managing the classroom effectively to maintain a positive safe and productive learning environment in line with Pilton protocols
  • Delivering preprepared lesson content and supporting students to complete set work
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication with students staff and parents/carers when required

What Were Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings confidence reliability patience and strong communication skills and who is committed to supporting young people in a busy secondary environment.

Essential

  • Experience working with or supporting children or young people
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills (Level 2 equivalent)
  • Understanding of classroom routines and the needs of young people
  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to build positive relationships with both students and adults

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the secondary curriculum (Key Stages 3 and 4)
  • Understanding of child development and barriers to learning
  • Experience promoting inclusion or supporting students with additional needs
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent skills/experience)
