The Assistant Manager Legal (Contracts) plays a critical role in supporting the organizations legal and commercial operations across multiple jurisdictions. The role is responsible for providing timely practical and business-aligned legal advice with a strong focus on contract drafting negotiation and risk mitigation.
The position partners closely with internal stakeholders across business technology and operations teams to ensure contractual and legal matters are handled efficiently compliantly and in line with organizational objectives. The role requires a high level of independence sound legal judgment and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities in a fast-paced technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Risk Management
Act as a primary legal advisor to internal stakeholders on contractual and commercial matters
Provide clear pragmatic and risk-aware legal advice across business functions including cross-border matters
Conduct legal research and provide opinions on legal interpretations regulatory requirements and internal policy implementation
Proactively identify and mitigate legal risks while supporting business objectives
Contract Management
Independently draft review and negotiate commercial contracts including service agreements NDAs MoUs and other legal documentation
Manage the end-to-end contract lifecycle from initiation to execution and archival
Develop update and maintain standard contract templates in line with company policies and applicable laws
Review and respond to RFPs RFQs vendor qualification forms and contractual queries
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and deliver appropriate legal support
Serve as the point of contact for contract-related matters within assigned projects and initiatives
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with applicable legal regulatory and governance frameworks
Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records and documentation
Support regulatory filings internal audits and governance-related legal requirements.
Research & Legal Opinions
Conduct and oversee legal research on relevant laws regulations and industry developments
Prepare legal opinions internal guidance notes presentations and training materials on legal and compliance topics
Person Specifications
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in law from a recognized university
Admitted Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka and a member in good standing of the Sri Lanka Bar Association
Minimum of 5 years experience in a legal role with strong exposure to contract management and corporate advisory
Knowledge
Strong understanding of commercial law contract law and corporate governance
Working knowledge of regulatory compliance and data privacy requirements
Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong drafting negotiation analytical and problem-solving abilities
High attention to detail with the ability to apply sound commercial judgment
Abilities
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under pressure
