Principal, Data Governance and Risk

Exxaro Resources is looking for a Principal Data Governance and Risk to join our team in Centurion Gauteng. This position offers a chance to lead at the conneXXion and implement strong governance controls and frameworks to manage data as a critical organizational asset. The role involves defining and enforcing data policies that comply with regulatory requirements. You will ensure consistent data management across various business units and contribute to seamless interactions within our enterprise. One of the main challenges is governing data across Coal Metals and Energy sectors while balancing standards with operational flexibility. • Develop and implement data governance frameworks and controls to ensure data is managed as a critical organizational asset.
• Define and enforce data policies standards and controls in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational needs.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and data governance across diverse business models.
• Drive accountability among business stakeholders and provide oversight for data accuracy and consistency across the enterprise.
• Lead version control practices and data transformation initiatives to enhance data management practices.
• Collaborate with Risk & Compliance to identify and mitigate risks related to data governance and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate data retention and archiving policies in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a culture of accountability through training communication and cross-functional alignment of data governance practices.
• Monitor data quality metrics and provide insights to support remediation efforts where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with data protection privacy and security regulations including POPIA and GDPR.

• BCom (Hons) Law or BComm (Hons) Information Management or B Eng (Relevant) or B Degree (Hons) in a related field (Essential/Minimum)
• Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
• Certified Data Management Professionals (Essential/Minimum)
• 8 - 10 years experience within a mining environment with a focus on regulatory compliance and data management (Essential/Minimum)
• Operational mining or plant exposure with data-related experience such as data quality management enterprise data strategy and regulatory compliance (Essential/Minimum)
• Proven ability to lead data transformation initiatives in complex environments (Essential/Minimum)
• Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements in a mining context (Essential/Minimum)
• Experience working across business and IT functions to support decision-making through reporting analysis and modeling (Essential/Minimum)
• Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
• Pyschometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
