Job Summary
Deliver world-class interpretive and safe Big 5 safari experiences in an ultra-luxury lodge environment. This role combines high-end hospitality deep ecological knowledge off-road 4x4 navigation and conservation support while acting as an ambassador for lodge and lodge group
Guiding & Guest Experience
- Conduct morning and evening 4x4 game drives and interpretative bush walks.
- Share comprehensive engaging information on fauna flora tracking birdlife and history.
- Host guests at meals and coordinate safari schedules according to 5-star hospitality standards.
- Tailor safaris to specialist guest interests including advanced wildlife photography.
Safety & Compliance
- Uphold strict safety protocols regarding dangerous game encounters.
- Demonstrate proficient safe weapon handling and rifle readiness at all times.
- Manage emergency incidents including medical care evacuations or remote breakdowns.
Operations & Maintenance
- Complete routine vehicle logs daily checks and maintain safari vehicles to pristine standards.
- Manage bush hospitality equipment (e.g. packing cooler boxes morning hot boxes and tracking consumables).
- Assist with reserve tasks such as road management alien plant control and reporting animal injuries.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent credential.
- FGASA Qualification: Minimum Nature Site Guide NQF2 (Apprentice Field Guide); NQF4 (Field Guide) or higher is highly preferred.
- Trails Guide Status: Lead or Apprentice/Backup Trails Guide qualification.
- Rifle Proficiency: Valid Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH) and SAPS firearm business competency certificate.
- Driving Credentials: Valid South African code B or C1 drivers license alongside a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Medical Certification: Valid Wilderness First Aid or First Aid Level 1 certificate.
- Legal Registration: Valid registration with the National Department of Tourism (NDT / DEAT).
Skills & Personal Attributes
- Big 5 Experience: Proven experience working in dangerous game areas (luxury lodge environments are heavily preferred).
- Storytelling & Demeanour: Exceptional English communication skills charisma and a warm friendly presence.
- Physical Fitness: High physical stamina to endure long working shifts in challenging outdoor weather.
- Team Spirit: Strong emotional control self-discipline and a collaborative mindset.
