We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Mining Infrastructure Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design implementation commissioning and optimisation of electrical infrastructure supporting surface and underground mining operations. This role offers the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects covering power generation substations reticulation process plants pumping systems ventilation hoisting and mine services.

Duties & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Mining Infrastructure Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design implementation commissioning and optimisation of electrical infrastructure supporting surface and underground mining operations. This role offers the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects covering power generation substations reticulation process plants pumping systems ventilation hoisting and mine services.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop low- medium- and high-voltage electrical infrastructure for mining operations.
Prepare electrical calculations single-line diagrams protection studies cable schedules and equipment specifications.
Design and review substations switchgear transformers motor control centres (MCCs) variable speed drives (VSDs) and power distribution systems.
Perform power system studies including load flow fault level voltage drop protection coordination and arc flash analysis.
Develop electrical layouts cable routing lighting earthing and lightning protection systems.
Ensure compliance with mining legislation electrical regulations and applicable South African and international engineering standards.
Provide technical support during procurement construction commissioning and operational handover.
Coordinate electrical engineering activities with mechanical civil structural process and control & instrumentation disciplines.
Conduct site inspections technical investigations factory acceptance tests (FAT) site acceptance tests (SAT) and commissioning activities.
Support operational teams with troubleshooting root cause analysis reliability improvements and asset optimisation.
Prepare technical reports engineering specifications project documentation and engineering change documentation.

Minimum Requirements

BEng BSc or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
Experience in mining heavy industrial or infrastructure electrical engineering.
Experience designing electrical infrastructure for surface or underground mining projects.
Working knowledge of electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical ETAP DIgSILENT PowerFactory EPLAN or equivalent.
Strong understanding of:
- MV/LV power distribution
- Electrical protection systems
- Motor control centres (MCCs)
- Variable speed drives (VSDs)
- Power quality and energy management
- Earthing and lightning protection
- Industrial automation and PLC integration
Excellent technical analytical and problem-solving skills.
Valid drivers licence and willingness to travel to mining operations.
