The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Draughtsman you will be responsible for creating accurate 3D models detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation for both mechanical and electrical integration. You will work closely with design engineers manufacturing teams and prototype specialists to ensure designs are practical manufacturable and meet the highest engineering standards.Key Responsibilities
Design & CAD Modelling
- Produce 3D solid models of components sub-assemblies and complete assemblies.
- Execute design tasks under the guidance of the Chief Designer or Senior Design Engineer.
- Ensure compliance with company drawing standards file structures and numbering protocols.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical design teams to ensure successful system integration and cable routing.
Technical Draughting
- Prepare detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
- Produce accurate technical specifications and documentation.
- Ensure the technical integrity and quality of all engineering drawings.
- Generate documentation that enables manufacturing without prior design knowledge.
Prototype Support & Testing
- Assist during prototype builds and testing activities.
- Capture and implement design improvements through closed-loop feedback.
- Update drawings based on prototype and production feedback.
Manufacturing Support
- Work closely with production teams to resolve technical queries.
- Capture and update red-line drawings during prototype and production phases.
- Support manufacturing by ensuring accurate and up-to-date engineering documentation.
- Assist Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) with repair maintenance and technical information.
Project Delivery
- Complete drafting tasks within project timelines and budget constraints.
- Support the Design Team Leader in achieving project objectives.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed of developments within the automotive and defence industries.
- Apply new technologies and best practices to improve design quality and efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Professional Draughting qualification or equivalent certification.
- Additional engineering or CAD-related qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience
- 26 years drafting experience within the automotive or related engineering industry.
- Previous experience within a military vehicle or defence manufacturing environment will be highly advantageous.
