Sr. T&D Manager – HV Transmission Overhead Line Engineer

We are seeking an experienced HV Transmission Overhead Line Senior Manager (Discipline Director level) to join our Transmission & Distribution team leading the technical delivery of high-voltage overhead transmission line infrastructure projects. 

In this role you will provide strategic technical leadership engineering governance and quality oversight for overhead transmission line systems across HV transmission projects. You will guide engineering teams and technical leads through all project phases from concept and feasibility through detailed design construction support and commissioning ensuring safe reliable and compliant transmission line operation. 

You will play a key role in developing engineering teams defining technical strategies ensuring design quality and maintaining strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Project Oversight

• Provide technical leadership and oversight foroverhead transmission line systemsacross HV transmission projects. 

• Define engineering strategiesline design philosophies and technical approaches aligned with client requirements and industry standards. 

• Oversee the development and review of criticaloverhead line engineering deliverables including: 

• Line routing and mechanical design drawings 

• Tower spotting and profile drawings 

• Sag-tension calculationsand conductor selection specifications 

• Tower foundation designand structural analysis reports 

• Ground clearance and crossing design specifications 

• Ensure proper integration ofoverhead lines with substations including transition points terminal gantries and OPGW communication systems. 

• Provide technical assurance and governance ensuring engineering deliverables meet quality standards and technical requirements. 

• Support complex technical decisions related toconductor selection tower geometry sag clearance management and right-of-way acquisition. 

• Provide high-level technical support during construction testing commissioning andenergisation phases. 

Team Leadership & Engineering Management

• Lead and develop teams ofoverhead line design engineers technical leads and discipline specialists. 

• Provide technical mentorship and career development guidance to engineering staff. 

• Coordinate engineering resources across projects to ensure efficient delivery and technical consistency. 

• Establish and maintain engineering standards design procedures and technical best practices across the organization. 

• Promote a culture of technical excellence collaboration and continuous improvement within the engineering team. 

Client Engagement & Multidisciplinary Coordination

• Act as technical authority and key client interface foroverhead transmission line engineeringmatters. 

• Work closely with project directors engineering managers and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery. 

• Coordinate withsubstation civil system studies cable and commissioning teamsto ensure fully integrated transmission solutions. 

• Support technical proposals bid strategies and project planning for major infrastructure programs. 

Qualifications :

Qualifications & Experience

Education 

• Bachelors degree inElectrical EngineeringStructural Engineering or related field 

Experience 

• Typically15-20 years of experienceinoverhead transmission line engineeringfor HV systems (132kV 220kV 400kV 500kV) 

• Proven experience leadinglarge overhead transmission line engineering projectsand multidisciplinary teams 

• Experience providing technical governance and engineering oversight across complex infrastructure projects 

• Demonstrated leadership in developing and managing engineering teams 

• Expertise in PLS-CADD PLS-TOWER and PLS-POLE software. 

Technical Skills

Strong expertise in: 

• Overhead line designfor HV transmission (mechanical design structural analysis conductor selection) 

• Tower design(lattice tubular T-pylon) and foundation engineering 

• Sag-tension calculationsand ground clearance management 

• Right-of-way (ROW) acquisitionand crossing regulations (highways railways pipelines) 

• Conductor selection(ACSR AAAC ACCC) and bundled conductor design 

• Integration of overhead lines withsubstation terminal compoundsandOPGW telecommunication systems 

• Knowledge ofIEEE and IEC standardsfor overhead line design (e.g. IEEE 738 IEC 60826) 

Leadership & Soft Skills 

Strong technical leadership and engineering governance capabilities 
Experience managing engineering teams and multidisciplinary technical delivery 
Strategic thinking and complex problem-solving abilities 
Excellent client engagement and stakeholder communication skills 
Ability to maintain high technical standards and design quality across projects 

Nice to Have 

Experience working on UK transmission or distribution substation projects 
Exposure to National Grid standards and protection philosophies 
Commissioning and field testing experience 
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional certification
