Job Summary
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
TOBERMAN NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER
Toberman Neighborhood Center (TNC) is a community non-profit organization with $3-5 million of annual expenses 50-60 employees and a large operating facility in the San Pedro Harbor area. TNC serves San Pedro Wilmington Harbor Gateway Harbor City and Long Beach providing family services including a variety of free programs to inspire change and enable the development of a better future. These services include: an after-school K-12 program a gang intervention and prevention program academic resources that address student achievement safe supervised recreational activities and educational courses including tutoring study skills training and instructions on secondary school completion.
Toberman Neighborhood Center also promotes athletics and physical fitness for our youth through organized sports and recreational activities as well summer camps. Family Source Center (FSC) provides individual services and resources through pre-employment and employment support housing rental and utility assistance GED ESL and after-school programming computer literacy and financial literacy case addition TNC has a food pantry which provides groceries to individuals and families in need and a Thrift store for a wide variety of low-cost household items and clothing.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the strategic operational and community leader of Toberman Neighborhood Center (TNC). The ED is responsible for advancing TNCs mission through collaborative community engagement strong organizational leadership sustainable fund development operational excellence and a healthy people-centered organizational Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board of Directors staff community partners funders and stakeholders to ensure TNC remains a trusted responsive and innovative community-based organization. The ED must demonstrate emotional intelligence cultural humility transparency accountability and a deep commitment to serving historically underserved Executive Director will prioritize strengthening organizational infrastructure staff development and retention strategic planning youth and family engagement financial sustainability trauma-informed leadership practices and operational consistency while preserving TNCs longstanding reputation and community trust.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Vision & Board Relations
- Leads the collaborative development of a multi-year strategic plan with Board members staff and key stakeholders establishing measurable goals organizational priorities and accountability measures to guide TNCs long-term success.
- Positions TNC as a central community hub through collaborative partnerships with schools nonprofits civic organizations and community stakeholders.
- Builds organizational alignment through communication transparency and collaboration across all programs and departments.
- Supports prevention-focused long-term community impact strategies particularly in youth development family stability intervention services and mental health support.
- Maintains strong collaborative relationships with the Board of Directors through regular communication regarding organizational operations strategic priorities and financial health.
- Prepares for and actively participates in Board and committee meetings while supporting Board development and recruitment efforts aligned with the organizations mission and governance goals.
Staff Leadership & Operational Efficiency
- Oversees day-to-day operations staffing organizational systems and policy implementation.
- Ensures compliance with employment laws grant requirements operational standards and organizational policies.
- Maintains operational efficiency and organizational accountability.
- Addresses facility and infrastructure needs to ensure safe functional and welcoming spaces for staff youth and families.
- Strengthens internal systems and operational consistency across departments.
Financial Management and Fund Development
- Oversees preparation and management of the annual operating budget.
- Ensures sound fiscal stewardship transparency compliance and long-range financial planning.
- Develops diversified revenue strategies to increase unrestricted funding and long-term sustainability.
- Builds professionalized fundraising systems donor stewardship practices and accountability structures.
- Strengthens relationships with major donors foundations corporations and government partners.
- Collaborates with the Board and leadership team to expand fundraising capacity and community investment.
- Identifies new funding opportunities to sustain and grow youth mental health intervention and family support programming.
Program Management and Community Engagement
- Supports youth-centered programming and family engagement initiatives that reinforce TNC as a trusted community hub and safe space.
- Demonstrates understanding of intervention youth development and community-based direct service work.
- Experience leading government relations and external affairs initiatives to build strategic partnerships advance policy goals and enhance organizational impact.
- Strengthens and expands partnerships supporting mental health workforce development education violence prevention and family stabilization.
- Supports culturally responsive and trauma-informed programming.
- Invests in outreach marketing and community visibility to strengthen awareness and participation.
- Maintains a visible and active presence within the communities TNC serves.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of ten years of responsible executive experience including a proven record of success.
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g. nonprofit management business administration sociology or a related discipline).
- Experience working within community-based organizations youth development programs intervention services mental health programming or related direct service environments strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed equity-focused and community-centered leadership practices highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative teams develop staff strengthen organizational culture and implement systems-based leadership approaches.
- Experience with managing the day-to-day operations of nonprofit organizations.
- Experience integrating equity-centered practices into leadership organizational culture decision-making and programmatic or operational strategies.
- Experience managing government contracts and cultivating strategic partnerships with public agencies community-based organizations and other stakeholders including ensuring compliance maintaining strong relationships and advancing organizational goals through collaboration.
- Experience in building revenue and increasing philanthropic support.
- Familiarity with the San Pedro Wilmington Harbor Area and surrounding communities preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity equity and inclusion in the workplace.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary range is $140000 to $165000 based on experience. Toberman Neighborhood Services offers a comprehensive benefits package including Medical Dental Vision plus PTO.
