Job Summary
Hydro is a global aluminium company striving to be a leader in working towards a sustainable December 2021 we announced our plans to develop and industrialize HalZero a new CO₂ emission-free process for producing primary aluminium.
The development of HalZero is one of three pillars in Hydros initiative to deliver aluminium with net-zero CO₂ emissions. HalZero is a new and innovative way to produce aluminium where no CO₂ is emitted during the production December 2025 we completed construction of the HalZero Test Facility in Porsgrunn. Industrializing the HalZero process requires extensive development including laboratory work design and operation of our Test Facility and pilots and engineering and construction of demo and full commercial plants.
The work towards CO₂ emission-free aluminium is led by the Technology Operational Support and Projects (TOP) unit in Hydro Aluminium Metal. TOP consists of 300 skilled employees in Norway and Germany whose main task is to support commercial and operational units in improving profitability and sustainability both in the short and long term. HalZero is strengthening its team in several areas to support the further development of the technology.
We are looking for a committed leader to take on the role of Head of Project Office (PO) in HalZero and play a pivotal role in our industrial venture.

What you will be doing
In this role you will represent HalZero as the project owner across facility projects Industrial ConceptPilot(ICP) IndustrialDemoPlant(IDP) CommercialPlant (COP) ensuring clear direction strong governance and successful delivery from early concept through execution and handover. You will bridge technology development with project execution safeguard business and technical objectives and act as the key interface towards Hydros project organization driving performance on cost time quality and strategic impact while building a collaborative high-performing project environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the HalZero Project Office
- Act as HalZeros owner representative setting direction scope and success criteria for major projects
- Ensure governance and decision frameworks aligned with strategic and commercial goals
- Lead early-phase development activities including site selection permitting and stakeholder engagement
- Serve as the main interface to Hydros project execution teams and EPC contractor ensuring seamless collaboration and handovers
- Oversee project performance (cost schedule quality risk) from an owners perspective
- Build strong internal collaboration develop capabilities and drive continuous improvement across projects
What will make you successful
- Masters degree in engineering technology or a related field
- Experience leading complex process industry projects with a structured holistic approach from early concept to delivery
- Strong ability to collaborate across disciplines building trust and alignment between technical business and project teams
- Confident decision-maker with a balanced thoughtful approach to risk quality and commercial outcomes
- Skilled in navigating complexity and change bringing clarity and direction in evolving environments
