Technical Sales Engineer
Job Summary
ROLE PURPOSE
The Technical Sales Engineer will serve as the primary technical and commercial interface between our client and its clients in Kenya. The role combines deep product and safety-standards knowledge with strong business development capability to grow revenue expand market share and build long-term strategic partnerships with key industrial accounts. The successful candidate will be expected to hit the ground running with an established network in Kenyas industrial and EHS procurement landscape.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical Sales & Business Development
Design and execute a territory-based sales strategy targeting Kenyas industrial manufacturing construction mining and oil & gas sectors.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities through cold outreach site visits referrals and participation in industry events and trade exhibitions.
Conduct in-depth needs assessments and technical consultations with EHS Managers Procurement Officers HSE teams and Plant Managers.
Provide expert technical guidance to clients on correct PPE selection matching products to specific workplace hazards and compliance obligations under Kenyas Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA 2007).
Prepare detailed technical proposals Bills of Quantities (BQs) and competitive tenders for corporate and institutional clients.
Negotiate and close sales contracts while protecting company margins and upholding service delivery commitments.
Achieve and consistently exceed monthly quarterly and annual sales revenue targets as agreed with management.
2. Product & Technical Expertise
Maintain expert-level knowledge of our clients full PPE product portfolio including:
Gloves: cut-resistant (EN 388) chemical-resistant heat-resistant welding general-purpose and disposable
Safety Footwear: steel-toe boots (S1/S2/S3) anti-static chemical-resistant and metatarsal protection
Head Protection: industrial hard hats (Class A/B/C/E) bump caps helmets with integrated face shields
Coveralls & Protective Clothing: disposable flame-retardant (EN ISO 11612) chemical-splash high-visibility
Eye & Face Protection: safety goggles (EN 166/ANSI Z87.1) face shields arc flash protection
Hearing Protection: earplugs (foam reusable) earmuffs banded protectors SNR-rated
Respiratory Protection: dust masks half-face respirators full-face respirators supplied air systems
Fall Protection First Aid supplies and safety signage
Advise clients on applicable international safety standards: ISO EN ANSI/ISEA NFPA and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) requirements.
Stay current on product innovations new safety technologies and regulatory developments in the Kenyan market.
Conduct on-site product demonstrations PPE audits and hazard assessments to recommend appropriate solutions.
3. Account Management & Client Retention
Build and nurture a portfolio of key accounts ensuring high customer satisfaction repeat business and contract renewals.
Act as the primary point of contact for key clients resolving technical queries complaints and after-sales support needs promptly.
Develop and deliver customized PPE training sessions toolbox talks and product inductions at client facilities.
Monitor client usage patterns and proactively propose restocking plans annual supply agreements and product upgrades.
Leverage existing relationships within Kenyas industrial safety community to generate referrals and accelerate sales cycles.
4. Market Intelligence & Strategy
Conduct ongoing competitor analysis tracking competitor pricing product launches and market positioning across Kenya.
Map the Kenyan industrial safety market identifying untapped segments emerging sectors and geographic expansion opportunities.
Provide monthly market intelligence reports and strategic recommendations to the Regional Sales Director.
Represent our client at Kenyan trade fairs OSHA forums EHS conferences and industry associations to build brand presence.
5. Reporting CRM & Administration
Maintain a live and accurate CRM database of all prospects clients opportunities and sales activities.
Submit structured weekly call reports monthly pipeline reviews and quarterly business reviews to management.
Collaborate closely with the procurement logistics and finance teams to ensure seamless order fulfillment and client invoicing.
Assist in forecasting demand managing client-specific stock requirements and coordinating timely product availability.
Requirements
Education
Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical Chemical Industrial or related field) Occupational Health & Safety Business Administration or a closely related discipline.
A postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Health Safety & Environment (HSE) such as NEBOSH IOSH or NEMA is a significant advantage.
Training or certification in relevant PPE standards (ISO EN ANSI) will be an added advantage.
Experience
5 to 7 years of hands-on technical sales experience in the PPE industrial safety or related B2B product sector with the majority of this experience in the Kenyan market.
Verifiable track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets within Kenyas industrial manufacturing or construction segments.
Established professional network among EHS Managers procurement officers plant managers and safety regulators in Kenya.
Experience handling government tenders institutional procurement and corporate supply agreements in Kenya is highly desirable.
Exposure to multi-country East African sales operations (Uganda Tanzania Rwanda) is an added advantage.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of Kenya OSHA 2007 the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) requirements for PPE.
Familiarity with international PPE standards: ISO 9001 EN 388 EN 166 ANSI Z87.1 NFPA 2112 EN ISO 11612.
Ability to conduct workplace hazard assessments and PPE risk audits with confidence.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint) and CRM platforms.
Experience preparing technical proposals Bill of Quantities and tender responses.

Valid Kenyan driving license and own reliable transport (or willingness to utilize company transport).
Fluent in English and Swahili; additional local language proficiency is an advantage.
Willingness to travel extensively across Kenya and occasionally to the broader East African region.
Required Skills:
Education Bachelors degree in Business Administration Sales & Marketing Commerce Industrial Management or a related field. A diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) or Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is an added advantage. Experience 4 to 7 years of proven sales and marketing experience with a minimum of 3 years specifically in the PPE industrial safety or related B2B product sector. Demonstrated track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets in a competitive industrial market. Prior experience working with clients in manufacturing construction mining NGOs or government procurement is highly desirable. Experience handling tender processes and institutional/corporate procurement is an advantage. Technical Knowledge Strong knowledge of PPE product categories safety standards (ISO EN ANSI) and their correct industrial application. Familiarity with Ugandas Occupational Safety and Health Act and sector-specific safety regulations. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) and CRM tools. Skills & Competencies Exceptional communication negotiation and interpersonal skills. Strong consultative selling and client relationship management abilities. Self-motivated and target-driven with a hunter mentality for new business. Ability to work independently and manage a wide territory across Uganda. Analytical thinking with ability to interpret market data and adjust sales strategy accordingly. Valid driving license and willingness to travel regularly to client sites and upcountry locations. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Luganda or other local languages is an advantage.
