VALID OREGON DRIVERS LICENSE IS REQUIRED. This position is located on a wildland fire crew as a crew member within the fire mgmt. organization. The purpose of the position is wildland fire suppression/management/control, as a skilled firefighter on an engine. Other wildland fire related duties may involve fire prevention, patrol, detection, or prescribed burning. The incumbent will also be involved with the maintenance and repair of firefighting tools, equipment and facilities, and will receive firefighting training. As as assistant on an engine, works as a trainee engine operator driving the engine, operating the pump and making hose lays under the direction of the engine foreman.
Requirements
Primary duties are directly connected with the control and extinguishment of fires and/or maintaining and using firefighter apparatus and equipment. The duties of these positions are so rigorous that employment is limited to physically vigorous individuals who meet established physical requirements. Required to pass medical exam and arduous fitness test. Must have a telephone or reliable message phone, and be available and on call 24 hours a day during the fire season.
