Qualifications and Key skills:

  • bachelor’s degree in counselling or the equivalent;
  • post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in child & adolescent counselling or play therapy;
  • a member of the British Association for Counselling or relevant psychotherapy professional body (or equivalent);
  • relevant experience (a minimum of three years) of working in a school with children and young people;
  • an empathetic listener, with a professional, warm, kind and calm manner;
  • excellent communication skills and can present confidently to various audiences;
  • adapablet and can show sensitivity, respect and empathy to various cultures;
  • ability to adapt to change and cope with stressful situations;
  • meets our child protection and safeguarding requirements in full.

To comply with Egyptian employment law, applicants must have QTS and a MINIMUM of three years post qualification working in a school, or similar setting.

Remuneration

The British International School, Cairo (BISC) operates a higher teaching scale to schools in the UK which increases with teaching experience. All salaries are tax free and paid in Pounds Sterling. The current basic salary for a teacher with three years’ experience is £36,000 p.a. while the salary of the majority of staff (six years experience or more) is over £41,500 p.a.

In addition all overseas contract teachers benefit from a generous housing allowance, private BUPA Gold medical insurance, annual return flights to the UK, and 2 free places for children of school age.
