    Opportunity

    We will prioritize applications received before Feb 15, 2024.

    IRAP Jordan seeks to sponsor law students who are participating in a formal law school program to intern at IRAP for a 10-week period from June until August 2024. The legal intern will be supervised by members of our legal team for case-related matters and by a Volunteer Program Manager for logistical preparation and administrative follow-up within the IRAP Jordan office. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in refugee, immigration, and international law, who seek direct experience with displaced people.

    Responsibilities

  • Conducting screening and intake interviews with at-risk and vulnerable displaced people and identifying applicant needs for direct services and relevant referrals;
  • Conducting factual and legal research in support of direct representation;
  • Drafting memos or application processes for protection or family reunification cases that may be submitted to receiving governments or UNHCR;
  • Supporting outreach to isolated communities and participating in public education efforts;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; pursuing an advanced degree in law, with one year of law school completed, is preferred;
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills;
  • Fluency in oral and written English required; fluency in Arabic preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations;
  • Initiative to see projects through and ability to multitask;
  • Strong interest in refugee processing, immigration law, and human rights;
  • Ability to commit to a minimum of 24 hours per week.
