Detailed work requiring accuracy in processing high volume incoming calls for IRT (Incident Response Team) and Incident Management Coordinators, monitor dispatch radio. Duties also require astute organizational skills. Provides services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. Performs other duties as required by the Incident Management Administrator.
Job Duties of the Incident Call Taker:
- Handles high volume calls
- Handles and processes all written requests for IRT, Incident Management (IM) services, law enforcement, and maintenance calls.
- Properly processes and routes documentation to be generated by IRT and Incident Management.
- Tracks and electronically compiles and forwards data where there is injury, damage to County property and/or possible liability to the County. This type of data is coordinated with the department of Risk Management.
- Communicates with IRT and Incident Management staff along with other divisions, various area law enforcement agencies and the public.
- Programs message signs (DMS)
- Operates CCTV program
Skills of the Incident Call Taker:
- Knowledge of the rules of grammar and punctuation.
- Knowledge of telephone etiquette.
- Ability to perform multi-tasks.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively.
- Experience with Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel
- Ability to answer multi-line phone
- Ten key punch skills
Physical Work of the Incident Call Taker:
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending when lifting light objects, such as three or four reams of papers or books, (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight).
Qualifications of the Incident Call Taker:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- One (1) year of clerical work experience and typing skill of at least 35 correct words per minute.
- Previous dispatch experience preferred.
- Vocational/technical training in the area of office/business studies, social science, public administration or a closely related field can substitute at the rate of 60 classroom hours for each month of the required work experience.
