Extrusion Line Operator

Responsibilities:

• Converting raw materials into pellets, flakes, or strands for use in manufacturing
• Monitoring equipment to ensure it is working properly, making adjustments as needed, and maintaining logs of performance metrics
• Maintaining equipment by troubleshooting malfunctions and repairing or replacing parts as needed
• Operating machinery that extrudes thermoplastic materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) into pipes, rods, sheets, film, or other shapes
• Reading blueprints and making calculations to determine how much material to feed into the extruder
• Following safety procedures to avoid injury or accidents during the extrusion process
• Operating machinery to extrude plastic pellets into large strands of plastic used in manufacturing products such as pipes and storage containers
• Operating machinery to extrude plastic pellets into thin sheets used in manufacturing products such as CDs and DVDs
• Operating machinery to extrude plastic pellets into thin strands used in manufacturing products such as rope, carpet, or fishing line
