What can you expect as a computational scientist

Our Hydrodynamics and morphology (HDM)software productline is one of the flagships of Deltares. Our software product is open source and is of very high standard. That is necessary because the problems they solve help us in enabling Delta life around the globe. All this means that we must keep pioneering in this field to uphold our mission. And that is where you come in! We are looking for an expert to help shape the renewal of our software.

As an expert computational scientist you will explore and study numerical schemes help people translate these concepts into source code and be a bridge between our business departments and software department. From this role you inspire people and guide them in the right direction through leading by example. You advice many stakeholders and you will have ownership of the vision and initiatives allowing you to shape the direction and outcomes.

These colleagues will help translate the R&D into product development.
• Legacy: You will engage in a longterm plan with skilled colleagues as to keep our legacy code relevant for the upcoming period of time. You will be part of a significant flagship product team.

Requirements

Who are we looking for

We are looking for a passionate expert who is committed to contribute in our longterm strategy to successfully transform our numerical software. With an innovative open mindset who is receptive to new ideas and can connect professionals and inspire them. Furthermore you bring:

• Solid experience (15 years) in computational science and profound knowledge of numerical analysis. An academic degree (preferably with PhD ) in computer science computer engineering applied mathematics aerospace engineering or similar with a keen interest in computational fluid dynamics.
• An interest in the analysis and implementation of spatial and temporal discretization of linear and nonlinear Partial Differential Equations with application towards our hydrodynamic and morphodynamic simulation products.
• Experience in leading other researchers in the conceptualization analysis and prototyping of numerical software and turning this into a sustainable product.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders and colleagues.
• You are familiar with terms like: implicit time integration unstructured meshes linear and nonlinear solvers preconditioners turbulence models stability analysis etc.

What we offer:

• Deltares offers a contract for 12 months with the intention of a contract for an indefinite period of time. Salary will be based on your experience with a maximum of 8.191 gross per month based on 40 hours per week. This role can be filled in parttime or fulltime.
